Twenty-third week of pregnancy

Future child.

Height – 28-29 cm, weight – 550-580 gr.

The child has reached the size of a small doll. The baby’s skin still has a reddish-pink color due to pigmentation. On his head appear the first real hair, and the fluff of the lanugo, which covers his body, begins to darken.

The baby grows fat and shows more and more activity. It seems that he is constantly spinning and spinning inside his mother. But it turns out that the child basically sleeps, but not in a row many hours, but phase: 50 minutes asleep, a few minutes of fun (grabs the umbilical cord and pushes into the amniotic fluid, pushes the legs and paws in the walls of the uterus, etc.). The child’s heart beats in one rhythm, therefore he does not yet experience a phase-dreaming as an adult.

Nerve fibers of the child’s muscles are increasingly fused with the nerve fibers of the spinal cord. Therefore, his reflexes become better and better. Now he really sucks his finger, and not just puts it in his mouth.

The pancreas of a child actively produces insulin, which breaks down sugar for better absorption by the body, and the fetus is a hormone necessary for growth. The development of the pancreas began at the earliest stages of pregnancy (3-4 weeks). It is interesting that mom and baby do not exchange this hormone.

The mother’s insulin does not pass to the baby through the placenta, and the child’s insulin can not penetrate the mother’s blood. Therefore, it is necessary to consider as a myth the hypothesis that pregnant patients suffer from diabetes mellitus more easily than non-pregnant ones. By the way, if a mother is sick with diabetes, then the baby is born with an increased level of insulin.

According to the criteria of the World Health Organization, adopted in our country, babies born after 22 weeks of pregnancy and weighing from 500 g must be provided with resuscitation assistance. Both doctors and lawyers believe, therefore, that a child at this age can already survive and, therefore, has all the rights to emergency medical care.

We especially draw your attention to this, as you can still hear stories of unhappy moms who have given birth to a child who has already reached the age of 25-28 weeks of development and weight of 900-1000 grams, who was considered doomed and did not provide the necessary resuscitation assistance. So, from the full 22 weeks of pregnancy the birth of a child can not be considered a miscarriage, but a premature birth with all the resulting conclusions.

Future Mom.

The average weight gain this week is about 6.5 kg. The uterus is 3.5 cm above the umbilicus, the depth of the bottom is 23 cm (plus or minus 2 cm).

This week you can feel not only the child’s movements (quite distinct and diverse), but also the so-called Braxton-Hicks contractions. These are not real bouts, nor even alarming symptoms of premature birth. Just your uterus is getting ready for childbirth and its neck is gradually beginning to train: it narrows and expands, imitating labor contractions.

These are the Braxton-Hicks fights (in the people they are called “braxtons”). They then appear, then disappear without any regularity. In this “Braxtons” are different from the real birth pains, which have their own distinct rhythm. “Braxtons” can occur even with the 20th week of pregnancy, but they are really distinct after the end of the 2nd trimester, somewhere from 27-28 weeks of pregnancy.

To understand if you have premature births, mark the time of the fight. They should not attack more than 2 times an hour, about 5 attacks per day are considered normal. Contractions should not be painful and resemble, rather, a pulling sensation before menstruation. After a few seconds, the “braxtons” pass.

Now it’s time to talk about the most important – about a woman’s state of mind during pregnancy. The term prenatal depression also gradually entered into everyday life. Nevertheless, it is worthwhile to warn against too superficial and easy attitude to the problem.

It’s not just tears, mood swings in a pregnant woman.Unfortunately, if depression reaches a certain stage, it flows into somatic disorders and can affect the course of pregnancy.

Antenatal depression begins imperceptibly from the first crisis, which occurs after the positive pregnancy test. No matter how much the child is desired, the mere fact that he is already makes a woman nervous. After all, now it belongs not only to itself, but also to the child, and must do everything to bear it and give birth to healthy people.

Most women rush to books, magazines, the Internet in search of “ideal recipes” for pregnancy, answers to how to “do it right.” As a result, she receives a lot of instructions that are simply unable to do something from and to, and even to realize properly.

Stress begins with a sense of guilt “I’m not an ideal mother.”

Very often, this stress takes dangerous forms, since it is the desire to be an ideal mother that sometimes leads, oddly enough, to a completely opposite result. The woman becomes impressionable, easily manageable, afraid of everything.

Especially she is afraid of terrible stories about childbirth in our hospitals and suddenly, at some stage, decides to give up official medicine, since she is allegedly dangerous. As a result, she goes on about charlatans, stops consultations with doctors and even categorically declares that she will give birth at home with one of the so-called “spiritual midwives.” Thus, the life of the child is in danger.

What to do in this case? Remember, no matter how much you fear doctors, it’s yours and only your phobia. Of course, our official medicine is far from ideal, but you can always find a doctor who can be trusted 100%, it’s just not too lazy and make minimum efforts. But the birth of the home means that you are completely dispensed with special equipment, without a team of doctors and without all the resources of the hospital, which can help in an emergency situation.

Next crisis: “I will have time all”.

This is especially true of business women who had a very active life before their birth and built a career. They can not be frightened by the fact that for a fairly long time their activity should be reduced. Such women can start a new business from scratch at the 20th week of pregnancy, work until 40 weeks and leave for the maternity ward directly from the office.

Of course, this is often due to material difficulties. The desire to earn money is understandable and there’s nothing to be done. But think, if you have enough money, or if you have a husband who is able to support a family, then why all this intense activity? To whom and what do you want to prove at the expense of a threat to the health of your child?

It is not necessary to quit all business, but it is worthwhile to introduce them within a reasonable framework and recognize that “we have no irreplaceable”. All problems can wait, any question can be decided without your participation. Think about it, does it hurt you?

Crisis the third: “What I am fat and terrible!”.

Begins with about 12-15 weeks of pregnancy, when it is too early to speak about the actual thickness. You are not fat, you are pregnant. It’s not for long. After the birth, you will return to the old sizes, unless you eat off all 9 months of pies and cakes. Yes, even if you will, you will be helped by active shaping, a therapeutic sauna and massage. The only thing that does not lend itself to processing is stretch marks, but with special creams and massages their number and brightness can be reduced.

Crisis the fourth: “As to me it is bad!”.

It is clear that toxicosis does not please anyone. You are constantly tired, you do not get enough sleep, become irritable, break at all. But still try to control yourself. If you snap at someone or cry more often than once a day, you should learn to abstract from the negative, regardless of who is right, who is guilty from your point of view. Meditate, slowly and deeply breathe, try to relax several times a day, at least for several minutes.

Crisis the fifth: “As I am lonely, nobody loves me and does not understand!”.

Of course, you are alone. Who else besides you understands your pregnancy? Nobody except, perhaps, the same “teddy” like you. Get used to the fact that your pregnancy is YOUR pregnancy. The rest are not like you, because you are not pregnant. They do not have your hormones, your toxicosis, your fears, your complexes, they are not afraid of analysis on AFP or ultrasound, they do not get sick in transport, they do not grow weekly from all their things. Look for your kind. Talk to the little ones while you are waiting in the queue for a doctor’s appointment, sign up for childbirth preparation courses, there is often a very nice company going on there – believe me, there will always be people who will support you and understand. On relatives, you should not take offense, maybe they should better explain your condition more clearly.

The crisis of the sixth (for the first-born): “What will I do with him ?!”.

This thought appears just in the twenties of pregnancy, when the expectant mother is already thinking about childbirth and what to buy for the baby. She suddenly thinks that she has no idea what to do with newborn children. Those. it already has a concept (books, courses, the Internet), but it’s difficult to imagine yourself doing it. The recipe is alone – it will pass by itself. We assure you, after the birth, you yourself will know how to change clothes, bathe, feed. If you do not know how to do something, you will be taught by nurses in the hospital. In this there is nothing complicated.

The crisis of the seventh – “I’m afraid to give birth!”.

Ask yourself a question, which is better: do you still have to give birth or spend your whole life with a 20-30 week old tummy? The answer is obvious, right? To give birth all the same it is necessary, and by 36-39 week at the woman there is no fear before sorts, and the desire to give birth as soon as possible, so bothers to carry a pregnant stomach. From the fear of childbirth, the stories of those who have already given birth are saved, as well as the advice of your doctor (in the maternity home or on the courses), which will tell you in detail about how the childbirths are proceeding and how to anesthetize them (if you want). In the modern world of birth, this is not at all what 100 or even 50 years ago. The chances that everything will be great, especially in the absence of pathologies, are 99%. The birth pain is quite unpleasant, but childbirth is really the most joyful event in life, you will feel it when your baby is on your chest.

If you are very afraid of delivery, ask your husband or your mother to be present. Choose a doctor who, besides being a good professional, is human likeable to you. He can calm you during childbirth, cheer up. In general, the more carefully and in advance you prepare for childbirth (choose maternity hospital, doctor, insurance company, dowry to the baby), the calmer you will feel when it all starts. After all, we are afraid not of the terrible, but of the unknown.

Scientists have found out how psychological stress affects the course of childbirth.

Experiencing a relationship with a spouse

leads to the absence of a reflex cry from a newborn, although asphyxia is not diagnosed at the same time. If the girl is expected, then the threat of miscarriage or premature birth is increased, in boys, on the contrary, prolonged delivery.

Increased irritability of the mother

(fatigue, insomnia) – premature birth of girls.

Overload in school or at work

can cause premature birth, moreover, rapid delivery, and also lead to a lack of shouting at the birth of girls.

Sleep disorders

, associated with stress, internal dissatisfaction, problems with loved ones, lead to the cordation of the umbilical cord in boys at birth (emotional-stressful antenatal hyperactivity), and girls experience premature or rapid delivery.

Negative relationships within the family

or with parents, as well as problems within the work collective lead to premature separation of water and childbirth from boys.

Severe fright and panic attack syndrome

arises from the lack of confidence in the husband and marriage, as well as possible financial problems. The boys have premature births. Girls have swift labor in the absence of a newborn cry.

In particular, fear can be expressed in the form of fear of childbirth, this is especially hard for girls, who can have a delayed pregnancy, very long birth and absence of screaming.

And your loved ones must remember that in no case can not brush aside even from the most absurd problems of a pregnant woman. Be at least a little sympathetic. Repeat the magic phrase: “Darling, you’re so tired, poor, how I feel sorry for you! How can I help you?”

Most often it turns out that it is not necessary to help anything, it’s enough to just stand there and listen to how bad it is and how tired she is. But by this simple action you can greatly help the child and his mother.
