Democracy does not always provide for complete freedom of action. Sophisticated legislation and bizarre situations give rise to rather unusual fines, the most unusual of which we will tell below.
One Englishman received a fine of 60 pounds. As proof of this, a video recording of how this driver, staying in a traffic jam, took out a handkerchief and blew his nose. Michael Mancini explained that at this time he was on Aur High Street, and suddenly his nose was combed. The driver knew that his car was at a neutral speed, also fixed by a hand brake. This could not be dangerous for others. But the policeman who is nearby, suddenly began to give signs, demanding to move from the road to the roadside and park for a conversation. The astonished driver was immediately fined for incorrect behavior of the vehicle. The policeman was called Stuart Gray, and he had already become a local celebrity for picking and branding.
An unusual means of transportation.
Dennis Anderson continued to invent even in old age. An elderly man from a powerful lawnmower and an ordinary chair created a motorized wheelchair. To give her comfort, Denis added the lights and stereo. Unusual stroller can accelerate to 30 kilometers per hour, because in the engine “live” eight horses. Everything would be limited to the admiration of the neighbors, but one day Dennis after a get-together at the bar lost control and rammed a standing car. A resourceful retiree also injured his leg. Arriving at the scene of the accident the police ascertained the fact of alcohol intoxication of the mountain driver. In addition to depriving him of his rights for six months, Lihach received a fine of 1,200 pounds. And the vehicle itself was confiscated. But now the legendary stroller can be purchased at a special state auction among other confiscated vehicles.
29-year-old Kerry Norris and her lover Adam Hinton were so loudly engaged in sex that they tortured their moans and cries of all neighbors. All would be nothing, but passionate lovers also shouted obscene phrases, while the back of the bed mercilessly hammered against the wall, adding to the neighbors a headache. The couple was also hardy, ending their sex marathon only in the morning. In the end, the neighbors filed a complaint, as a result of which Kerry was fined. Respectable citizens told how a woman constantly makes noise and curses. One of the neighbors, Richard Powell, complained that the sound of the bed against the wall prevented him from sleeping. His wife told, then she had to move the children to another room, because they were disturbed by a constant noise. The indignation was caused by the fact that Adam liked to sunbathe naked in the garden, confusing poor neighbors. Passionate lovers were sentenced to 300 pounds of fines. Now they will either have to subdue their ardor, or spend on the soundproofing of the bedroom.
Thomas is an unbeliever.
It turns out that sometimes its own point of view, which runs counter to the generally accepted one, can cause a fine. That’s exactly what happened to the former chairman of one of the swiss Swiss parties. It was about the diary of Anne Frank. This girl lived in Amsterdam, during the Second World War, hitting a concentration camp, died there on March 15, 1945 and did not wait for release. The diary was later published, it caused a huge resonance – the strength of the spirit of the little girl turned out to be so great that she was not afraid of the inhumanity of the fascists. But the young 22-year-old politician allowed himself in June 2009 to say that the notes are “Jewish lies”. But in fact, shortly before this, a comprehensive study of the diary was carried out, which confirmed its authenticity. The young fugitive was immediately fined 10 thousand dollars for a public manifestation of racism. His political career came to an end.
A deranged honor.
In the Indian province of Madhya Pradesh, a woman named Vandana Gurjar filed for divorce with her husband Himant Chkhalotra. Among the reasons that prompted her to do this was the impossibility of her husband to satisfy her sexually. Hemant was generally indicated impotent. Such offensive accusation outraged the man. He filed a counterclaim, accusing his wife of slander. The court took the side of the indignant man, obliging the ex-spouse to pay the amount of 200 thousand rupees (almost 3 thousand dollars). After all, such words humiliated the spouse, damaging his reputation in the eyes of other women. The amount of the fine for India is quite high, it exceeds the annual income of the overwhelming number of residents.
Innocent drinking of juice.
The main actor of this story was our compatriot, who in 2008 in Dubai was put behind bars for drinking alcoholic juice with her Lebanese companion. After all, local laws say that during the month of Ramadan you can not eat or drink drinks during the day in public places. Poor violators were threatened with a fine of 2 thousand drachmas each, which equals $ 555, or a month in prison. In their defense, tourists could only say that they did not know about this local ban. In their opinion, this should have freed them from responsibility. However, the judge decided otherwise, though, reducing the amount of the fine by half.
Wrong child’s name.
In 1991, Elizabeth Hallin and Lassay Deving protested against one of the Swedish laws. In this country it was forbidden to give children names that were not included in the approved list. Thus, “wrong” names were not allowed. The couple went on the principle, calling their son “Brfxxccxxmnpcccclllmmnprxvclmnckssqlbb11116”. For this they were fined 5,000 kronor (about 680 dollars). In the family the boy is called quite decently – “Albin”. But the name chosen for official documents allowed parents to show their opinion and a creative outlook on life. The truth of the harsh Swedish judges is such an attitude on the pityed, the law urged the child to pick up another name. Parents suggested that the name for a boy be fixed from a single letter – “A”, but even then the judge replied that such short names are also prohibited. As a result, the boy was normally named Albin Halin. Parents, advocates of freedom, probably forgot to think about how the boy will have to live with his unusual name.
Speed is exceeded.
The penalty for such an act seems to us ordinary. We have it so often. However, the amount of the fine is impressive – 650 thousand euros! You might think that the driver was racing at the speed of light, since he was fined more than half a million. The police were able to record how Mercedes SLS AMG swept past them at a speed of 289 kilometers per hour. The cost of the car, by the way, “only” 140 thousand euros. The 37-year-old driver exceeded the permissible standards three times, losing not only a significant amount, but also the rights to driving. Such a huge amount of fine is due to the fact that according to local laws it is affected not only by the speed itself, but also by the level of the driver’s income. In this case, wealth played with its owner a cruel joke. In justification, the driver blamed the broken speedometer for everything, which prevented him from realizing the speed of the car.
This story turned out to be fantastic for America, although for our reality it would be a common occurrence. The company Golden Fence erected a fence between Mexico and the American city of San Diego. It suddenly turned out that among the workers there are many illegal immigrants. It turns out that an American company building a fence to prevent Mexican illegal immigrants into the country used them themselves for construction work. The first check, conducted in 1999, revealed violations in hiring workers. The company swore that such a thing would not happen again, but in 2004 and 2005 it turned out that at least a third of the employees were illegally on the territory of the country. The penalty for blatant use of cheap labor was $ 5 million.
