It’s no secret to anyone that the more interesting the main idea of a bar or its original entourage, the more people this institution will attract. Of course, in the history of creating unusual bars there are sad cases when the desire to be “exceptional” led to the fact that the idea was not attractive, but even frightened off all visitors.
Not every potential client will want to skip a cocktail or two in the company of doctors and their frightening tools or with aliens. On the other hand, even crazy ideas sometimes work. You just need to be “in the right place and at the right time.” If you decide to visit the most unusual bar in the world, then you can choose one of our list.
Bar at the Museum of HR Giger (Gruyère, Switzerland).
In the eightieth year of the twentieth century, the film “Alien” became a sensation, he more than deservedly received an “Oscar” in the nomination “Best Visual Effects”. Eighteen years after those events in Switzerland, in a small town of Gruyères, a museum opens. Even in our turbulent time, it can be safely called one of the most unusual. Behind all this stands the famous Swiss painter Hans Rudolf Giger, or simply HR Giger. The most famous of his works is the work on the movie “Alien” Ridley Scott, namely, the artistic atmosphere of the film. In the museum of Giger there are exhibited not only his best works, but also the works of other creators, performed in the unifying style of fantastic realism. But their most artist projects are most stunning is the HR Giger Bar, opened at the museum in 2003. The bar will leave unforgettable impressions for anyone who gets there. After all, not every day you manage to get on an alien ship, so startling, and so realistic. Here, every little thing creates a sense of the presence of alien minds. And the bar itself as a whole makes the visitor believe that he is actually inside a long-dead, long-dead beast. And how not to not drink here, if you suddenly fell into a completely unfamiliar and alien world to you?
Brandy Library (New York, USA).
In New York there are all: a lot of different boutiques, museums, parks and, of course, bars. Everyone will be able to pick up the institution “to taste” – something vintage, or ultramodern, located somewhere in the basement, under the ground, or on top of a bird’s flight. It would seem that here can really surprise? Especially since the bar industry of New York in all its diversity exists necessarily in a complex, is formed as a mosaic, where each particle complements the other. And one of the most intriguing parts, of course, is the “Brandy Library”. The name speaks for itself – the bar really looks like a real library, but instead of books on the shelves there is a terrific collection of all sorts of brandy, cognac, rum, whiskey and liquor. There are about a thousand names. But even sophisticated tasters this bar can surprise – in fact in the inventory of the institution there are also unique specimens, for example Pierre Ferrand Cognac 1914 or Armagnac Lagarde 1900. The assortment is so diverse that it will be difficult enough quickly and without hesitation to make a choice. However, this is a library, which means there are employees, connoisseurs of “books” who are ready to come to the rescue at any moment. An integral element of such an elegant atmosphere are jazz evenings, which take visitors to a completely different time – the times of old New York.
Wood bar-baobab (Limpopo Province, South Africa).
According to the indigenous inhabitants of southern Africa, thousands of legends are associated with the baobabs. In particular, Bushmen believe that God was offended by the baobab, for which the last and to this day grows roots up. However, it is these trees that can live, and they live for many hundreds of years, expanding tens of meters wide. The province of Limpopo in South Africa is famous for the existence of the widest of baobabs in the world – the Great Baobab. A huge tree has seen much in its life – after all, its age is about 6000 years.During this time, the baobab stretched for 47 meters in diameter and stretched out 27 meters up. The Great Baobab has a cleft, in which a bar with 60 “landing” seats is quite cozy. Created such a bar entrepreneur Van Herends. The first guests received a wooden bar-baobab with open branches in 1993. To date, the bar has existed for almost 20 years. This certainly indicates that the institution was able to find its regular customers. The assortment of drinks is small, but the main one is cool beer. But still the main advantage of the bar is a constant temperature of 22 degrees, which is quite attractive for the hottest continent on Earth. Faraday Bar (Antarctica).
The research station “Academician Vernadsky” operates on the island of Galintes in Antarctica. There are few Polar explorers – according to various data the number of people in the group varies from 11 to 15 people, about 65-70% of whom are scientists. But this station is known to the whole world not only thanks to its scientific discoveries. After all, there is a bar “Faraday”, the most inaccessible drinking establishment on the edge of the Earth. It bears the name of a famous physicist, who in the nineteenth century discovered the laws of electrolysis. Later they were named after this scientist. In the name of the bar there is nothing surprising, because until 1996 the station belonged to England, and began its work in the 50’s of the last century. Faraday is quite deservedly one of the main attractions of the continent, the same as penguins and icebergs. Moreover, almost all sightseeing tours that in one way or another affect the vicinity of the scientific station include in their program a visit to this institution. The bar itself is small, with a tree inside. There is also a photo gallery about scientific expeditions in these places. Although the bar also contains a rather modest assortment of different drinks, but for many hundreds of kilometers there is simply no alternative. It is this institution that attracts its guests.
“Clinic Bar” is located in Singapore, in the area of shopping centers and all kinds of entertainment. The architect of the bar is Damien Hirst, an English artist. Death is the central theme in his work. The hospital atmosphere is far from being to everyone’s liking. Therefore, such a bar will attract not everyone passing by a potential visitor. “Clinic Bar” is not just like a hospital. This is a concentrate of “hospital” topics. The entrance is already shocking, which is very similar to the morgue. And the halls look like pill form. The seats at the tables are too similar to the standard hospital wards, who want to easily find a bed there to their liking. There are no seats, instead of them there are golden wheelchairs. Particularly should be noted and the staff – he is all dressed in a real form of medical worker. Drinks are served to customers in test tubes, droppers or bottles, and food – in special “medical” dishes. Visitors can sit in a wheelchair, lie down like a corpse under white sheets or dance in the Morphine nightclub, tearing off on the dance floor in the form of a capsule. Bar “House of the Hobbits” (Manila, Philippines).
In 2001, all the cinemas in all the cities of the world were in huge queues – the first part of the trilogy produced by Peter Jackson was released, based on Tolkien’s novel “The Lord of the Rings”. The picture won 4 Oscar and 68 other awards. To date, few people are not familiar with this work – whether it’s a film or a book. And fans of Tolkien’s creativity appeared much earlier. To the joy of many of them, since 1973 in the world there is a bar-restaurant “Hobbit House Bar”. Its creator is the former volunteer of the Peace Corps Professor Jim Turner. The main requirement for the bar was that its staff was represented exclusively by “little people”, similar to hobbits. Despite the fact that the institution often moved, the original idea was constantly implemented. Before entering the bar, visitors must go through the round fairy-tale door. Inside the bar, the walls are decorated with paintings from Tolkien’s books. And, of course, the same “hobbits” serve the guests. The menu and alcohol card contain quite a lot of different positions, music can also be found for almost every taste. The Bar-Restaurant “The House of the Hobbits” is very cozy, but it is not especially valuable. Jim Turner, in addition to creating an excellent bar, was able to realize his main idea – in his bar “little people” work. Thanks to the professor, they were able to realize themselves. Moreover, some “hobbits” have been working in the bar since its inception.
Sean’s Bar (Dublin, Ireland).
If you ever go for a walk in the county town of Dublin, you should pay attention to the “Sean’s Bar”. Let it not be frightened by the fact that it does not outwardly differ from other pubs, bars so traditional for Ireland. But, as they say, the first impression is often false, and it’s not worth judging anything by appearance alone. Once inside the institution, you will certainly pay attention to the certificate of the Guinness Book of Records, confirming that it is not just a pub. This bar is the oldest institution not only in Ireland, but also throughout Europe. And maybe even in the world? In the 70th year of the twentieth century, the pub building was reconstructed. It was then that they discovered that in the walls of the bar there is an ancient masonry. Archaeologists attributed it to the beginning of the tenth century, when Dublin was the mainstay of the small kingdom of the Vikings. In the walls of the “Sean’s Bar” people drank 11 centuries ago. The very realization of this fact of the centuries-old history of the pub makes this place special. However, in the rest “Sean’s Bar” is a traditional pub with cheerful feasts and music, in which, even after a thousand years, beer is the most popular drink. Bar in Hostel Celica (Ljubljana, Slovenia).
In 1882, a building was built, in which today the Hotel Celica is located. However, in those years it was the military prison of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and it served as such for more than a century. But time flows, and everything changes. In 1991-1992, after the collapse of Yugoslavia, the building, still reminiscent of the sad events, was to be demolished. Only so it was not destined to be erased from the face of the Earth. More than two hundred people stood up for the house, they even got permission from the city authorities for reconstruction. For ten years, many people have worked hard to upgrade this building. Thanks to eighty different artists (both Slovenian and foreign) by 2003, it gained not only a new look, but a whole new life. Once the former prison cells have now turned into cozy rooms. The hotel does not have two identical rooms, moreover, the rooms are decorated by completely different artists. On the windows and in the rooms there were old gratings. However, now this is not an obstacle to the desired freedom, but a stylish element of decor. And in the courtyard created a modern bar. To achieve a better contrast, this pub decided to take out of the building, and the venture was crowned with success.
Lagoon Bar (Iceland).
The blue lagoon is located in the southwestern part of Iceland, on the Reykjanes peninsula (Reykjanes). It is formed mainly from porous lava. Sea water can easily through the lagoon. Therefore, deep underground, reservoirs filled with marine geothermal hot water are formed. Thanks to absolutely natural processes, a real miracle of nature, known to the whole world, was formed. Not surprisingly, it is the Blue Lagoon that has long been the most valuable landmark in Iceland. And all thanks to the hot milky blue waters, known all over the world for their healing properties and unique chemical composition. The magical springs are sought from all corners of the world not only by those who need to be healthy, but also eager to relax or just relax in a pleasant atmosphere. In the Blue Lagoon there is also the Lagoon Bar, which maximally contributes to a good pastime. In addition, the bar will gladly serve customers engaged in water procedures. In the cocktail bar of the bar a diverse assortment of soft drinks is presented, there are branded cocktails “Blue Lagoon” and “Energy Explosion”. This is especially valuable, given the fact that even in winter, the water temperature is about forty degrees.
Das Klo Bar (Berlin, Germany).
Bar “Das Klo” is unique with one name, in German it means “toilet”. The most interesting thing is that such a name is completely justified. Instead of chairs there are toilet seats, and toilet paper easily replaced napkins. Even cooked dishes are served in the real “night vases”, and beer – in special beakers for collecting urine. “Sidushki” on the toilet, brushes and other charming attributes of the toilet room are quite logical elements of the decor. Visitors do not leave the feeling that they really got into the toilet. After all, the bar itself is very crowded, which, again, perfectly complements the atmosphere of the institution. Only in contrast to the toilet people are too much. Despite its color, the bar has been popular for over 40 years. Located in the heart of Berlin, the institution rightfully puts prices higher than in other bars. It is worth noting that in the city previously there were two more such bars, but all of them eventually closed. Apparently, the concept in the style of “toilet” is able to withstand only one bar and this is the already become local legend “Das Klo Bar”.
