This international fast food network is adapted specifically for Mexican cuisine. The company owns the brand Yum! Brands, part of PepsiCo. Taco Bell is thousands of restaurants in the US and Canada, but there are quite a few places in Europe and also in Asia.
And Taco Bell appeared due to the success of McDonald’s. The success of this network inspired Glen Bell, who was a sailor and veteran of the Second World War, to create something like that. In 1948 in San Bernardino, California, there was a diner for drivers Bell’s Drive-In. Originally its assortment differed little from the standard set of McDonald’s – all the same burgers, potatoes and hot dogs.
But later Bell decided that it was time for his institution to become unique. He switched to Hispanic citizens of the country and just lovers of Mexican cuisine. Since 1952 in the diner began to serve burrito, nachos and tacos. Taco Tias snack bars were opened gradually. But in 1955 Bell sold this small network and, finding partners, opened several new fast food restaurants El Tacos. And again the main specialty was Mexican cuisine.
In 1962, the Taco Bell network appeared. And again Bell sold his share in the former business and opened a new one. This time the businessman acted independently. He already understood that the promotion did not take much time. And in 1964, Bell began to sell a franchise for those wishing to open their fast food restaurant. The network grew rapidly, in 1970 it became public with 325 restaurants. In 1978, it was acquired by PepsiCo for $ 125 million. At the time, 868 restaurants were opened in the US.
In 1981, Taco Bell restaurants opened in Canada and Australia, in 1986 in China and the UK. Glenn Bell himself lived an interesting and rich life, he died in 2010 at the age of 86 years. His brainchild became the world’s largest restaurant of Mexican cuisine, with 175,000 employees. The turnover of the company is about 2 billion dollars. In Taco Bell, millions of visitors come every day, almost all establishments operate on a franchise basis.
