Sterilization of cats

Sterilization, or defertilization, is the process by which an animal loses its ability to reproduce.

Sterilization of cats

Sterilization and castration are one and the same.

Castration concerns cats, and sterilization – cats. Castration refers to the removal of the sex glands. This concept applies to cats and cats. In this operation, the cats are removed from the ovaries, and in the cats – testes. In our own environment, sterilization is often understood as castration, that is, complete removal of the sex glands. Of course, this is considered erroneous, since sterilization, that is, the inability to bring offspring, can be done without removing the gonads, with the help of other means. As a result, sterilization is a fairly broad concept, and castration is only one of its ways.

The operation of sterilization is very complex and painful, especially for cats.

Today, veterinarians successfully use electrosurgical sterilization, while interfering with the animal’s body is minimal. This method does not even require stitches in the abdominal cavity of cats, as with traditional techniques, and castration of cats is without suture material. Castration of cats takes up to 5 minutes, and sterilization of cats – up to 15. Consequently, a smaller dose of anesthetic agents is required, the degree of their effect on the body will be minimal. The incision in the operation is only 1 cm, so usually animals do not lose blood. For cats, the absence of suture strings in the abdominal cavity is a good factor, because in this case there will be no complications (peritonitis, pyometra, fistula), neoplasms in the uterus and in the abdominal cavity are not formed. Many veterinarians, even with the traditional method, generally remove the uterus, so that neoplasms do not appear, nor do pyrometers develop. Naturally, this approach is very difficult for cats.

After the operation, a cat needs long-term care.

Many believe that after sterilization at home, the cat needs to treat the wound, stab medicines. In fact, simplifying the operation, minimizing the incision, results in the cat recovering more quickly, and some special care is simply not required.

The removal of the uterus during sterilization is necessary.

The way a cat behaves during estrus is not caused by the uterus, but by sex hormones, which are produced by the ovaries. Therefore, the removal of the ovaries will avoid unpleasant behavior of the animal or unwanted pregnancy. Removing the uterus, even for the prevention of postoperative complications, is impossible, since this is a very serious, traumatic operation that will bring about serious complications that are virtually eliminated during electrosurgical intervention.

Than to do or make operation, it is better to apply hormonal preparations.

Of course, at first glance it’s easier to give a cat drops than to take to the doctor for surgery. However, the use of hormonal drugs leads to a number of complex diseases: ovarian cyst, endometritis, tumors of the uterus and ovaries.

After sterilization, the cat stops catching mice.

This is not true, since the hunting instinct has nothing to do with the reproductive system, the operation will not affect it in any way. It is not necessary to believe, however, that if a cat has never caught rodents, it suddenly starts after the operation. In general, everything will remain unchanged in this area.

After castration, the cat will feel defective and deprived.

Many men, as if sympathetic to cats, do not allow to castrate their pets. In fact, prolonged isolation of the animal from a partner of the opposite sex leads to anxiety – the cat will mark the territory, scream at night, become aggressive, can lose weight and appetite. Castration of an animal will quickly rid the hosts of these problems. No cat will experience any psychological experiences. If the animals have access to the street, then in their own environment they will not have to endure humiliation, because they simply will not get a certain status, remaining outside the hierarchy, like little kittens. For owners and that plus – the animal will not participate in mass fights or drinking, as a result, the risk of injuries, infectious diseases will decrease. All this will lead to the fact that the cat will gravitate towards the house, becoming more affectionate and obedient.
