The brothers Den and Frank Carney studied at Wichita State University in Kansas. Like other young people, they began to think not only about their studies, but also about their own business. One friend advised them to open a pizzeria, in their place it was a rarity, so the idea was liked by the brothers.
The brothers borrowed 600 dollars from their mother, which was an impressive sum for those times. Delhi went on to rent a small building in the center of Wichita and to purchase old equipment for pizza making.
A small restaurant could accommodate only 25 people, and a tiny sign above the door did not allow placing more than 9 letters there. So the title had to be concocted laconic. Yes, and the phrase “Pizza Hut” literally spun on the tongue – the old building was very much like a hut or hut (in English “hut”).
June 15, 1958 the restaurant opened to attract customers the very first day the brothers took pizza for a test in the neighborhood. A few months later the establishment became so popular that it brought in already 500-800 dollars a week. The brothers Karni realized that they had attacked the gold mine and began to open more and more new establishments under the same brand. Initially, the new restaurants were styled under the very first “hut”.
Even today, this is typical of some restaurants Pizza Hut in America. Already in 1959 it was decided to open new institutions on the basis of a franchise. And the first restaurant outside the US opened in Canada in 1968. Since 1971, the brand has come to be considered the world’s number one pizza producer and the main trendsetter in this food segment.
In 1972, the company became public, and in 1978 it was absorbed by the giant PepsiCo, which also owns such fast-food brands as KFC and Taco Bell. The owners paid a lot of attention to advertising. For example, the 1965 campaign turned out to be very successful – the townspeople chased a driver with pizza. As a result, delicious food was eaten by all but the owner.
One of the factors for the growth of the popularity of “Pizza Hut” was the appearance in 1986 of the delivery of pizza. Today it seems natural, but then this approach to customers was considered innovative. In the same year, a jubilee event occurred – in Dallas, the restaurant opened 5000. The brand actively flickered in films and video games, in advertising in 1997, even Mikhail Gorbachev starred.
Pizza Hut assumes a fairly diverse menu, which is unusual for a fast food network. Restaurants are divided into two main types. Pizza Hut – family establishments, with a great menu and quite comfortable. And there are much more attendants here. Pizza Hut Express is a classic fast food.
In the restaurants of the network, in addition to the pizza itself, you can taste pasta, garlic bread, chicken wings, and bistros that are part of the same network offer Italian themed dishes. Pizza Hut visited space in the form of advertising on the rocket and vacuum packed dishes, and in 2012 the company even released a limited edition of perfume.
Today, the company’s headquarters are located in Texas, Plano. The famous pizzeria employs more than 140 thousand people in 11 thousand institutions located in hundreds of countries.
