These people are needed only when misfortune happens. Fire! And the car with the siren rushes through the whole city. The brave firefighters struggle with fire, often at the cost of their lives. This is a necessary and indeed a man’s profession, which, however, is not always appreciated. And the fault, including these myths about it.

Firefighters sleep at work.

This myth has many different options – “sleeping like a fireman”, “firefighters slept through” and so on. Actual this opinion was when the firemen served for 25 years, and they lived right there, where they worked – in the fire departments. There they ate, and slept, brought up their children and farmed. Then the fire department was even harder than today – they worked in one shift. The ascent was at 5 am, and the working day lasted for 15-16 hours. In the morning the firemen read a prayer, then they cleaned the horses and cleaned the yard. And in the intervals between trips to work they rested, being, in fact, at home. Then the people noticed the sleepy tired firefighters, which became the basis for the myth.

At present, firefighting service starts at about 8-30 and lasts for a whole day.

After that, people rest for three days. The schedule of the day is really a dream. But if a call comes to the fire, then there is no rest. But every day on the number “01” dozens of reports of fires come, and even just about smoke, fires. Every day firefighters learn and train, they have to go to the burning of grass, debris, wood, even on products burnt on the stove, and simply false calls are present. So to say that firemen are sleeping at work, has long been not necessary.

Firefighters come without water.

So often say journalists who report from the scene of the event or are dissatisfied with the speed of work of rescuers inhabitants. In fact, this myth can be reasonably refuted. To extinguish fires, tank-vehicles based on ZIL-130 are usually used. The volume of this capacity is 2350 liters. If the fire will work at least one barrel, while not the most powerful, then all the water from the tank will leave in 7.5 minutes. If the trunks are two, or one powerful, then brought enough water in general for 5-6 minutes of extinguishing the fire. Therefore, as soon as the supply of water has come to an end, the tanker must stand on the source of the liquid. And so that there are no breaks and hiccups, the first arriving car expends a reserve of water to extinguish the fire, and the second, albeit with a full tank, immediately becomes a source to ensure an uninterrupted supply. That’s why people think that the car came without water, immediately went to the gas station. But that’s what those who simply do not understand the organization of work of firefighters think. The statements that firemen go to a call without water not only offend representatives of the honorable profession, but also simply discredit it.

Firemen can go on fire and half an hour.

There is a Federal Law No. 123-FZ entitled “Technical Regulations on Fire Safety Requirements”. It clearly established the timing of the arrival of fire departments to the site of the disaster. For the city limits – it’s 10 minutes, and for the rural – 20 minutes. Assuming that firefighters arrived only after half an hour, it can be calculated that the area of the fire will be up to 200 sq.m. It is important to ask a question, and when in general they reported a fire and how long it developed freely. It is known that in the first 10 minutes the fire spreads more slowly 2 times, which is why it will be much easier to extinguish the fire in such a time.

When a fire truck goes to work, water can leak from a leaky tank.

Actually, there is a water level control pipe in the tank. It is located inside the tank and is necessary for air discharge when refueling the tank from a regular water supply network. As soon as the tank is full, water is poured out of the control tube. Thus it becomes clear that the tank is full.So if the fire engine splashes water during the movement, it does not speak of a leaky tank, but of its full filling with water.

Firemen will gently open the jammed door.

Often people ask not to damage their jammed doors. But after all, the State Fire Service is needed primarily to extinguish fires and carry out rescue operations. Ensuring the safety of doors – clearly not a priority. And there is no equipment for opening the locks for firemen. There is usually a door or a crowbar or a lock with a “bolgar”.

Firemen can pull a stuck car in the dirt.

Fire fighting equipment is provided for extinguishing fire. Therefore, cars were created specifically to transport water and special equipment. As a result, fire engines and clearance is lower than that of other cars. If you start to get help to get rid of dirt from other machines, then there is a risk of damaging expensive specialized transport equipment. Yes, and fire brigade workers usually go to a disaster that threatens people’s lives. It’s not up to help the hapless motorists.

Firefighters can drain water from a filled cellar.

The fire trucks are equipped with a PN-40 pump. It is designed to produce a very powerful jet of water. For this, an impeller is used inside the pump, and it itself has a snug aluminum housing. And the difference between cars with a vacuum cleaning principle and the vacuum principle of sinking is that dirty water and small stones quickly wear out the impeller. As a result, one pumping out the cellar can lead to a fairly expensive repair of the pump and the unfitness of the entire fire truck.

Classic fire poles are already prohibited.

The appearance of the pole in the fire station was not accidental. On the night shift rescuers are in the bedroom or rest room. With the receipt of a call, they have the power to rush to the cars. And to get into the garage from the top depot, it will be safer to move down the pole instead of hitting the stairs with heavy shoes. After all, you can dislocate your ankle in a hurry. In some places decided to abandon the stairs and poles altogether, and build a one-story depot. This practice has become standard, but in densely built areas with a high cost of land, there continue to exist a depot of several floors. There they still put poles. And this myth owes its appearance to publications in English newspapers in 2006. But it was just about a reconstructed depot without poles, which just appeared in Plymouth. The yellow press inflamed the sensation, supposedly, the poles represent a threat, which was the reason for refusing to use them. But there has never really been a ban.

Fire extinguishes with water.
