(from English fast food – fast food) has long become an integral part of the modern world. Fast food existed in ancient times. Even in antiquity, fast food was very popular.
If in Ancient Greece still preferred to cook food in their household, the ancient Romans quite often refused to cook at all, some houses did not even have kitchens. But in every city there were a lot of snackbars and bazaars, where they traded all sorts of food.
Cakes made of yeast dough, greased with olive oil, were very popular, they were very convenient to use as edible plates. Many centuries later, these flat cakes, covered with baked cheese, sausages and vegetables, began to be called Italian pizza.
The Romans also had their own hamburgers. They roasted beef cakes, which were supposed to be eaten with bread. Professor Philip Fernandez-Armesto in his book “The History of Food” argues that the average ancient Roman used more fast food for food than, say, a modern resident of New York. The difference is that the fast food of the ancient Romans was more fresh and useful than modern hot dogs and hamburgers. They also respect fast food in other countries.
In China, hot instant noodles were traded at bazaars, in India, chapati scones with spicy sauce and rice with chicken pieces under curry sauce were popular. In Europe, too, they respected all kinds of flat cakes, and in some countries (for example, in Russia) did not disdain and pies.
Fast food as an industry emerged in the 1920s in America. The pioneer in this area was the company “White Castle” (“White Castle”), which opened in 1921 in Kansas. The signature dish of the “White Castle” was hamburgers, which at that time for Americans were a curiosity. Potential buyers were pleased with the stable price of food: despite the Great Depression, World War II and inflation, the company sold its hamburgers five cents before 1946.
When some visitors began to think about whether such food is harmful, the network owner Billy Ingram came up with a cunning move. He hired several young people who for a small fee every day came to the “White Castle” in white coats and ordered there hamburgers. Visitors took them for doctors and calmed down. Even burgers eat even doctors, which means they are really safe for health.
In the late 1940’s, the “White Castle” began to appear competitors. The most serious of them was a young company, McDonald’s. It all began very modestly: two brothers Dick and Mac McDonald’s, who traded in a small barbecue restaurant for Californian motorists, decided to switch to the production of hamburgers. In 1948, they managed to do it, and revenues increased dramatically.
In 1954, a traveling salesman Ray Crock met them, who suggested opening an institution all over the country under the same brand. The brothers agreed, and things went well. In 1956 there were 14 McDonald’s restaurants in the USA, 228 in 1960, 1,000 in 1968, 3076 in 1975, 6263 in 1980, 8300 in 1984, and 11800 in 1990.
Now the corporation “McDonald’s” has more than 30,000 restaurants in 119 countries, while the “White Castle” has about 380 restaurants in the US. However, in recent years, the mighty “McDonald’s” began to experience problems. After the company of fighters for a healthy diet, calling for a boycott of fast food, sales in the US and other developed countries began to decline, some restaurants even had to close.
Alas, all doctors and nutritionists are unanimous in opinion – fast food is of two kinds: harmful and very harmful. You can not eat them regularly. The main problem is that most of this food is very high in calories, contains a lot of fat and few vitamins.
First of all it concerns hamburgers. So all fans of French fries, bigak and other shawarma should remember three simple rules that dieticians offer:
1.Do not eat fast food more than once a week. And it is desirable to do it even less often.
2. Fat and high-calorie dishes (French fries, hamburgers, sweet soda) are the most dangerous for health.
3. If you ate fast food during the day, you should eat normally in the evening. Do not go to a fast food restaurant on an empty stomach.
Is fast food only McDonald’s?
Speaking about the dangers of fast food, usually in the first place have in mind institutions like “McDonald’s” and the like. Not far away from them, selling shawarma on the streets, hot dogs, pancakes with fillings and the like food. You can also include chips, all kinds of crackers, any fizzy drinks and other “little things” that we usually snack on the run. It’s a minimum. In reality, the list is much larger.
Food in fast-food establishments is prepared on some particularly harmful fat.
In most cases this is the case. The fact is that for preparing very many dishes, solid kinds of margarine with a high level of trans-isomers of fatty acids are usually used here. However, this type of spatial organization of molecules of fatty acids is characteristic for all creams in store cakes and pastries. So, there’s no big difference if you ate at McDonald’s or drank tea with a purchased cake. There are they in some other finished products with a high content of animal fats. The danger of these same trans-isomers is due to the fact that, for example, their doubling in our diet increases the risk of heart disease by at least twofold. Of course, it’s almost hopeless to explain to a teen who is crazy about hamburgers and french fries, what he’s risking. But here in the age of 30-35 to think about the possibility of heart problems because of this very potato is already worth it! By the way, the current young generation, who grew up on fast food, at the age of 30 has a chance not only to think about problems with the heart, but also to start “reaping the fruits” of his enthusiasm for such food.
The cause of Americans’ obesity is related to their love for “fast food”.
Fashion for fast food has long led to a rapid increase in the number of fat French, British and even Japanese. There are two reasons for this situation. First, the average dinner in some “McDonald’s”, at least, covers, and even exceeds the daily need for calories (for an adult this is 1500-2500 kcal). And after all, as a rule, during the day we eat and something else. Secondly, such nutrition disrupts the balance of hormones that are responsible for our sense of satiety. Therefore, we can order, for example, a huge hamburger, a serving of potatoes, a milkshake, a patty, ice cream, cola and … while continuing to feel hungry.
In food from fast food there are some narcotic substances that make us come back again and again.
Well, about any special drugs – it’s unlikely! However, do not rush to rejoice! According to scientists studying the influence of this food on the human body, excessive consumption of the fats and sugar contained in it, leads to real chemical dependence, like narcotic. That is, a constant visit to such snack bars causes the same painful dependence as smoking or drug use. The hobby for hamburgers, cola and fried potatoes rather quickly leads to a change in the chemical processes in the human brain, which most often happens with cocaine or heroin addiction. In favor of this theory speaks and the fact that fans of fast food is very difficult, and sometimes it is simply unrealistic to return to normal food and sit on a strict diet. They experience real “breaking”, similar to those from which sufferers who wish to be cured addicts.
Hamburger + cola is much more harmful than they are, but separately.
The whole point is that drinking a fat burger, hot dog and french fries or any other cold carbonated drink, we make a huge mistake.Gastric juice, diluted with effervescent liquid, ceases to cope with the digestion of already heavy food. And because of the low temperature of the beverage consumed with the hamburger, contained in its filling (cutlet or sausage), the fat instantly freezes and falls dead, increasing the volume of our waist even more.
The fact that “fast food” can lead to obesity – everyone knows, but sometimes you have to read that it also has a negative effect on the condition of the skin, hair and generally how the person looks. Is this not just another horror story?
Alas, no. The fact is that a constant supply of hamburgers, hot dogs, potatoes and pies causes a fairly rapid metabolic disorder. In addition, this food has a lot of cholesterol, the content of vitamins and dietary fiber is reduced to a minimum, and the balance between proteins, fats and carbohydrates has nothing to do with normal nutrition. The result of all of the above is sad not only for the figure, but for the exterior: this fast-food “diet” has a very negative effect on the hair condition, depriving them of shine and elasticity, as well as skin.
Fast food is especially dangerous for children.
Yes, it is. Although it is children and adolescents who are the main fans of eating “hot dog + coca-cola”. However, doctors are convinced that for the younger generation such food is almost deadly, since the body is still being formed, and the way it will be depends on the contents of the dish. Unbalanced fast-food menu leads to obesity, disorders in the endocrine and immune system, and this in turn affects the physical and mental development in the future.
Hot Taco Bell sauce can peel off a coin.
This is a fact. This is because the ingredients in the vinegar and salt cause this reaction. The fact is that this statement can be attributed to any sauce from the cuisine of southern peoples, these components are contained in abundance. If this fact frightens you, then do not eat much salt and try to avoid vinegar.
French fries are the most commonly used vegetable in America.
Unfortunately, this is an indisputable fact.
Kentucky Fried Chicken fried chicken, Kentucky Fried Chicken, was renamed to KFC because this product consists not of chicken but of meat of genetically modified animals.
Fiction. This was done, in order to remove the word “fried” from the name “roasted”.
McFlarry dessert does not contain a drop of milk from the McDonald’s restaurant menu.
Milk is contained there. Just whether there is something useful in this milk, this is another matter. Dessert McFlair is the basis for a cocktail, flavored syrup and milk. All this is stored in the refrigerator and through the dispenser when you press the button goes into your cup.
Milk cocktail from the restaurant “Burger King” contains seaweed.
This is fiction. Although such rumors have a basis. The milkshake contains a carrageenan thickener, a substance derived from red carrageenan alga. Carrageenan is found in milkshakes of other food nets, as well as in some other drinks.
Fast food causes gastritis, ulcers and other stomach diseases.
The first reason for the very possible occurrence of gastritis, gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, pancreatitis, constipation and other similar diseases, including cancer, from fast food food, is the rush in which it is usually eaten. In general, for that she and “fast food” to absorb it on the run, not really chewing and pausing. That’s only in the end get into the stomach are not shredded and not moistened with saliva pieces. The result is the same problems with the work of the gastrointestinal tract. There is also a second reason for the appearance of fast food fast food gastritis and ulcers. And it’s about … noise and loud music. As scientists have found out, the people snacking in overcrowded eateries under the noise and din of visitors, several times increases the risk of such gastric diseases. Those who, during meals, jam the noise of the player, including it at the maximum volume, also very quickly earn an ulcer or a gastritis. Especially this “musical-noise accompaniment” is dangerous for children and teenagers, whose organisms are especially susceptible to it.
You can die from fast food.
If it is a spoiled or contaminated food, then you can die from anything. If you talk about, so to speak, a normal fast food, then die, you certainly will not die, but the health is undermined on the vine. As an illustration, it is worthwhile to give an example with a 33-year-old American journalist named Morgan Sparlock, who decided to check how all these fast-food “horror films” correspond to reality. Before the experiment, he underwent a full medical examination, confirming his lack of any health problems. Then he for a month every day, thrice a day ate in “McDonald’s”. The result of the experiment was sad: 12 kg of excess weight, increased cholesterol several times, double the risk of heart attack and almost “planted” liver, reminiscent of the liver of an inveterate alcoholic. And this is with complete refusal of alcohol for the whole experiment! Another side effect was, incidentally, a sharp decline in the sexual desires and abilities of a desperate journalist.
This is interesting!
After seeing this picture, Mirab Morgan (a resident of North Carolina) decided to conduct her experiment. She also began to eat only in “McDonald’s”, and did it more than one month, and three. As a result of experiment, the lady … lost 15 kilograms. The secret is that she watched to consume no more than 1400 calories per day. Nutritionists cautiously responded about this success, noting that in french fries and cheeseburgers, there is still not enough vitamins and minerals necessary for the human body. Nutritionists agree that the relatively painless for health can be considered eating food from a classic fast food institution once a month. However, some believe that this too often.
