Families of Sri Lanka

The island of Sri Lanka as it was not called! And “Dharma Island”, and Serendib, and “Drop of India” and “Tear of India”. But everyone knows a different name – this is Ceylon. Yes, yes, the same tea with elephant, which a huge number of people remember – like real Ceylon.

And what various legends are connected directly with this majestic island: the Buddha was based on the path to paradise, and that here supposedly was Adam, and lived in his own kingdom the most important epic hero of the ancient Indian epic Ramayana.

Buddhism penetrated this island unhindered and very quickly. He was brought from India by the monks, and the locals took a new religion with a hunt. Buddhists can not be killed in any way, as well as lying, stealing, and the like. At the same time, they eat everything, and meat dishes as well.

In cities there is an easy crime, can safely rob. But still the taboo on the murder is introduced in relation to all life on earth – this is the most important commandment.

As a result, there are many national parks in the country, where the chipmunks are running around the rooms and streets in an uncountable quantity, and brazenly devour all the existing food – and they are not touched.

There are few Hindus in the center and in the south of the country, so the sacred cows are extremely rare, but still meet. Buddhists are forbidden to smoke and drink. And as a result, the vast majority of the population does not smoke or drink alcohol.

The island of Sri Lanka deserves to be called an island of educated people, as it ranks second in Asia in terms of education level after the majestic Japan. In cities, there is a separate education for boys and girls. There are no such conditions in the villages, so schooling can be joint. Co-education can also be in a separate kind of private schools for the very wealthy.

But in general, all education is free, including higher education. Among other things, all textbooks for teaching and material used for school uniforms are free of charge. Girls have a very pretty school uniform – a snow-white short dress that, in very polluted cities, just makes us conclude that they erase the school uniform every day. But in another way, it’s simply impossible.

An eight-year school is compulsory for everyone. A teenager, who graduated with good marks, can enter without a higher education institution. On the island, education is secular, but the schools are different, and this basically depends on religion. 93% of the entire indigenous population of Sri Lanka are literate people, which is very high for Asia.

All local people know their native language thoroughly, and understand the language of other residents, and of course, they all speak English well. And this is the legacy of the English.

меди In Sri Lanka, medicine is also free. That is, Ceylon medicine is divided into 3 parts. Free official European, Ayurvedic and expensive paid European. There are a lot of paid hospitals, especially in Colombo – it’s a whole residential area, but all without exception can count on free qualified medical care. In ancient Ayurveda, many people believe, and are constantly treated.

средняя In Sri Lanka, the average life expectancy is quite high for Asia: 76 years for women and 72 years for men, which is also quite a lot for a country with very low income. In this respect, the situation without any doubt is better than in Russia.

Undoubtedly Sri Lanka society, preserves a huge number of traits, so to speak of a traditional society with all its minuses and pluses. It will suffice even to say that the indigenous people do not immediately understand the questions about all sorts of pre-marital relations. All of them say: It is not accepted, as it is possible, ashamed. But, in the mountainous regions of the country there was a huge variety of forms of marriage relations.

Marriages in Sri Lanka are very strong, but occasionally divorce also occurs. The bride in the groom’s house brings a dowry, and this depends on the condition of his own family. Women here are little more than men, marriages occur or for love (which happens very rarely), or by a certain arrangement of the parents. Finance, horoscopes, caste, race – everything here has its own meaning. Especially important are the horoscopes – without them nothing happens at all.

In the cities of children, there are basically two children per one family, but in the villages, respectively, more. Older parents, except for the pension received from the state (in case they worked in the civil service, all the others do not get), they are supported by their already grown-up children who work. At the same time in cities, the average salary is about 200 dollars per month.

In the family, the role of women is very great. According to the tradition of the country, she sits at home, although women for some reason meet almost all existing works in Sri Lanka. And this again is the same heritage of the English. There are also women among parliamentarians (three times prime minister, under which Sri Lanka was legally admitted to the UN as a woman), and even was once the president of Sri Lanka a woman.

But with all this working all women in national clothing – this is a sari, which is their official dress code. In most cases, a huge number of urban men are dressed in trousers and shirts, but there are also men in the sarongs.
