Twenty-fifth week of pregnancy

Future child.

Height – 31-32 cm, weight – 800 g.

This week the formation of a system of neurons and the cerebral cortex is finally completed. The bark consists of gray matter (which is really of gray color, that’s why it is called) and, despite the soft color, provides the entire higher nervous activity of the organism.

Cora is responsible for the perception and mental properties of a person, controls and regulates the forms of his behavior, allows him to adapt in changing environmental conditions.

The presence or lack of oxygen in the body of the child and mother has a decisive influence on the activity of the cerebral cortex. Therefore, prolonged oxygen starvation (chronic hypoxia) is unacceptable. Hypoxia is now quite common (10.5% of cases).

If the baby does not receive enough oxygen and other substances necessary for it, it can lead to perinatal diseases and developmental defects. In the late stages of pregnancy, because of oxygen starvation the child lags behind in growth, his nervous system is affected, which means that other functions of his body do not develop properly.

Why does hypoxia occur? First of all, it can arise due to the mother’s diseases associated with the cardiovascular system (for example, anemia, heart defects, etc.), lungs (the mother does not get enough oxygen herself), severe poisoning, which violate the oxygen exchange.

The second reason is the abnormal development of the placental circulation due to gestosis, the threat of interruption or vice versa, pregnancy, the pathology of the placenta and the umbilical cord, through which the blood flow is carried out.

What signs should make the expectant mother worry? Firstly, if hemoglobin in the blood falls during a number of tests, it often overcomes weakness, dizziness and fainting, there is an excessive desire to eat meat with blood or liver. All these are signs of anemia. It is necessary to take all measures to increase the level of hemoglobin in the blood, consultation with a doctor is mandatory!

Secondly, it is necessary to follow the movements of the baby. Of course, my mother is happy to feel how actively her baby’s leg is beating. But in fact, the excessive activity of the fetus is one of the signs of possible hypoxia – by its active movements the child earns oxygen.

If after a very active period there comes a lull and only very weak perturbations are felt (up to three times within an hour), it is necessary to immediately consult a doctor, to conduct a survey: amniotic fluid, CTG, Doppler.

For those mothers who have hypoxia, the main rest and bed rest. Then the doctors begin to treat the disease, which became the cause of hypoxia (for example, anemia in the mother). Actions are being taken to improve the supply of oxygen to the baby and to facilitate the blood circulation.

If suddenly all the efforts of doctors do not show an improvement in the situation, they together with the future mother decide on preterm labor through cesarean section (for a period of more than 28 weeks).

On the 25th week the sexual organs of the baby are finally formed, the boy’s testicles descend into the scrotum (however, they will finally descend after the birth), and the girls form the vagina.

The baby’s palpitations are heard even if you just put your ear to the mummy’s tummy. The future dad can enjoy this sound, as well as jolting the legs and pens of his heir (heiress).

It is believed that the heart of girls beats more often than boys, but there is no scientific data on this topic. The norm at this time is 120-160 beats per minute (in adults 60-80 beats per minute).

Keep growing and strengthening the baby’s bones. Now he can already squeeze his fingers at will, grabs his own leg and plays with it, while giving preference to the right or left hand, has his own unique fingerprints.

Future Mom.

The average weight gain this week is about 7.5 kg.The uterus has reached the size of a soccer ball and its bottom is in the middle between the sternum and the navel. The height of the bottom of the uterus is 25 cm. Increasing, the uterus presses on the diaphragm and the subcostal area, as well as the stomach. You may have severe heartburn again.

The abdomen can grow in different ways. At some it is strongly protruded, someone, on the contrary, is distributed in the width of the side. Therefore, one of the pregnant women monumentally protrudes belly forward, someone seems to be a round colobochkom.

In addition, the breast increases more and more. There are often cases when it grows to 3-4 sizes. Hence the nicknames that jokingly call themselves pregnant: mammoth, elephant, matryoshka, puzan, Kang’s mom, etc.

Remember that between 20 and 30 weeks you must visit your doctor at least once every two weeks.

You can already start looking for a dowry for the baby. Although there is a sign that before the birth of a child, you do not need to buy anything, but it’s worth using the remaining time to get acquainted with the existing offers on the market. After giving birth to this, there will simply be no time or energy left. A stroller, crib, children’s accessories is very important to buy quality, so that they serve for a long time.

In addition to the dowry, it is time to gradually select a maternity home. Begin collecting information to determine by the 36th week, when you need to register in the hospital that you choose. Now let’s talk about a kind of genera in the modern society – domestic.

That is, when a woman gives birth at home not because of chance and not because of sudden childbirth or the inability to reach the maternity hospital, but makes a fundamental choice in general not to go there.

We will try to weigh the pros and cons of home births.

For:

No one has proved that home births are more dangerous than childbirth in the hospital.

Cons:

In Russia there is no statistics on this issue. In principle, any births are not dangerous, if they proceed normally, regardless of where they took place. The problem is only one: neither you, nor the midwife, nor even the superqualified doctor never 100% know how exactly the delivery will go. Never! Keep this in mind.

Once an unplanned complication occurs, being away from medical care can lead to irreversible consequences until the death of the child or mother. There are reasons to believe that the loud process in the case of the “Kolibelka” center refutes the thesis about the safety of home births, as they are understood in Russia.

For:

All over the world, women have long given birth at home.

Against:

The cost of hospitalization in foreign countries is many times higher than the cost of midwife services, so mothers with modest income often use maternity to save money.

Only in the EU is approved home delivery. There, a special system for the interaction of mothers, midwives, the nearest maternity center with qualified surgeons and emergency resuscitation assistance was created. Childbirth is illegal without the presence of a doctor. In the case of the slightest complication, the midwife will transport the woman in the hospital to the hospital.

In the US, as noted by such well-known researchers as William and Maria Sears, the system of effective insurance of childbirth has not developed completely, in many areas there is no in principle. In both the US and Europe, the midwife has a license, is armed with all the necessary medical tools, including even an ultrasound scanner, and does not come empty-handed.

In Russia, “spiritual midwives” in the overwhelming majority do not have any medical education, and nobody cares about the insurance, and this must be taken into account. We all know about the problems with calling an ambulance even in Moscow. Think about what you can expect if the bill goes for a second? And who will be next to you – a woman with an incomprehensible education or a qualified team of doctors?

For:

You can always have time to start at home, and then quickly come to the hospital.

Against:

The time count in this case goes to minutes, sometimes seconds (as in the case of a mother’s bleeding). Are you sure you will have time? And if you have time, the child will not remain disabled?

For:

There will be my family next to me at home, well-disposed, I will be with the child from the first minutes of his life. In general, the house is better than in the hospital, which more closely resembles a prison: it is impossible, this can not be done.

Against:

Roddom is not a barracks at all, as it is sometimes represented. If the hospital (maternity hospital) seems to you to be a prison, then you suffer from a psychological phobia – a separation from home. The term is used in relation to children, whom adults paid little attention to in 1 year of life.

And now your worries about being in the hospital, separation from close and household inconveniences of the clinic are more like the fears and phobias of a child. This has nothing to do with the real state of affairs, but only indicates the problems of your psyche.

In a modern maternity home, a woman in labor can invite a husband or other relative to her birth, and even, for God’s sakes, your “spiritual midwife.” In all maternity homes, the mother can stay with the newborn, visits of relatives after the birth are allowed.

Household inconveniences are also gradually reduced to a minimum. The modern generation suffers already because of the two-place chambers, while our grandmothers gave birth to 12-year-olds. More and more maternity hospitals equip the rooms with amenities “in the room.” The worker is allowed to bring her own underwear, any cosmetic and hygienic means.

For:

At home, a woman can take during the fights any convenient posture, be in the bathroom or the shower.

Against:

In the maternity home, no one will forbid you to move, as you prefer. In very many maternity hospitals, the blocks are equipped, at least, with a shower room.

For:

Reduced risk of infection with pathogenic flora, for example, Staphylococcus aureus.

Against:

Indeed, in the 90’s there were cases of infections. But it is worth noting that all the same the maternity hospital tries to keep itself clean, twice a year they are closed for prevention and cleaning. Very many infections that appear in newborns are transmitted to them from the mother (65% of women have those or infections in the genital tract).

For:

Do not apply medication, anesthesia, episiotomy, forceps.

Cons:

You can refuse any medical intervention for as long as it does not concern the threat of life. But not all non-intervention is useful. There are a number of indications when medical care is vital for the mother and child. This bleeding in the mother, swift birth, acute fetal asphyxia (lack of oxygen, in other words, strangulation), placental abruption, umbilical cord prolapse, etc.

For:

In Russia, childbirth is not prohibited.

Against:

In Russia, home births do not have a legislative basis. “Spiritual obstetricians” and doctors without medical education are not responsible for anything. Be prepared to respond in the event of the death of your child with the words of one supporter of home births: “It was your decision, and you must share with the midwife all the full moral responsibility.”

For:

In the maternity hospital doctors are rude and rude, and at home the midwife will look after me like a mother.

Against:

Do not generalize, the expression “all the doctors are rude and rude” from the category “all women are fools”. Think what’s more important: the risk of losing a child or possible (only possible!) Rudeness of doctors. There is no guarantee that the behavior of the “spiritual midwife” will suit you 100%. There are often cases when midwives generally do not hurry to come (especially at night) and conduct childbirth on the phone! Well, if such births end successfully.

It is often heard and this thesis: a woman should decide for herself where to give birth. This is an absolute lie. The woman decides not for herself and not for herself, but for the child and for the child. In addition, there is a whole list of contraindications for home births:
diabetes,
hypertension,
heart problems in the mother or baby,
kidney problems (protein in the urine, swelling),
cesarean section in the anamnesis, scars on the uterus, myoma, etc.diseases,
– premature birth,
– multiple birth,
– wrong fetal presentation,
– placental insufficiency,
– water scarcity and polyhydramnios.

Having a baby at home, remember that you should immediately go to the nearest hospital if you:
– bleeding has opened,
– water with meconium has been removed,
– birth takes too long without visible progress (more than 10 hours),
– there are rapid childbirth,
– you feel that something is going wrong, but you can not explain what,
– if the “spiritual midwife” has not arrived, and next to you there is no doctor.

In any case, the decision on home delivery should be made only after a full medical examination and a serious consultation with a qualified specialist from an official medical institution (LC or maternity home).
