Tie

Tie

(from the German “Halstuch” – “neck scarf”) – a handkerchief, ribbon or strip of fabric covering the neck under the collar of a shirt or blouse and tied in front with a bow or knot. In our time it is a familiar (and in some cases just necessary) element of a man’s suit, designed to add to its owner elegance and refinement (and sometimes hide the not quite clean collar of the shirt from prying eyes).

But it was not always so. The first neck scarves, which appeared in ancient Rome, protected their owners from colds and served as one of the attributes of the military uniform. In Europe, this toilet article appeared after a thirty-year war, with the light hand of Louis XVI, who introduced fashion to the neck scarves used by Croatian mercenaries in those days to protect them from the cold.

Tie

During the existence of the neck scarf has undergone many changes – a variety of shapes, colors, sizes are simply amazing. And only in the twentieth century appeared a familiar tie, which became not only a toilet object, but also a way of self-expression, a manifestation of a man’s taste. There are many rules for choosing, tying, wearing a tie, in which it is difficult to understand, and many myths and misconceptions about why this piece of clothing is needed and whether it is needed at all. We will try to debunk some of the most famous myths, simultaneously telling the most interesting facts about ties.

The length of the tie does not matter – under the jacket is not visible.

Yes, if you are going to spend the whole day in a tightly buttoned jacket. And if not? In any case, keep in mind that (according to research) the weak-willed and all-fearing people tie a too short tie, and bold and original, adorable individuals are excessively long. Therefore, if you do not want to get an incorrect idea about you, remember the simple rule: the tie should close the buckle of the belt (at least half).

There are no rules regarding the width of the tie.

This is not true. The width of the tie is usually proportional to the size of the jacket and the width of the lapels. On average, the width of this subject of a male toilet should be from seven to nine centimeters.

If the tie is soiled and wrinkled – it does not matter. Washing and ironing will be as good as new.

Actually, during the course of washing and ironing, the tie can be deformed or spoiled. Because of the dirt tie relieves dry cleaning, and instead of ironing you can use a simple way: wind the tie on your finger, carefully remove and leave it for a while in a collapsed form.

You do not have to untie a tie – you can just pull the thin end out of the knot.

Wrong opinion. Actions of this kind can damage even a very high-quality and expensive thing. Therefore, every time the tie should be dissolved (and in a sequence, back to setting) and let him hang around for two or three days on the hanger. If you just do not want to spend time tying up complex knots – you can buy a tie “regatta”, equipped with a rubber band and a special clasp at the back.

Ties have appeared in Germany or France.

For the first time necklaces appeared in ancient Rome, where they were one of the elements of the military uniform and provided protection from the cold.

Tie is the best gift for a man.

Indeed, friends, relatives or loved one can safely give a tie (preferably expensive). But a boss or a colleague on work can regard such a gift as a violation of business etiquette.

Tie

The pattern on the tie does not matter.

Psychologists believe that ties in stripes are most often chosen by businessmen, law-abiding and reliable in everything. The flower pattern gives out romantic and not ordinary people, and specks or peas – a choice of ambitious and purposeful. Circles on a tie indicate professionalism, and diamonds and squares – about the credulity of its owner.Reliable business people like to wear neckties with ornaments, and pedantic and conservative representatives of human society prefer single-colored ties.
In addition, designers believe that when choosing an ornament on a tie, you should take into account the shape of the face of the man who will wear this product. A man with rounded features will approach a tie with soft rounded details. If you are a lucky person with straight, stiff features, then you should choose your tie with a strip or cage.
Sigmund Freud had a slightly different view of the reasons for choosing that or other pattern on the tie. He believed that a man choosing a tie with a picture of fish, flowers, people needs the means to activate his sexual desire. According to Freud, the aforementioned pattern on a man’s tie is a direct indication that his wife is notorious and dissatisfied with the intimate life.

The tie should be the same color as the suit.

Indeed, with a light suit and a dark shirt, it’s best to look a light tie in the tone of a suit. But to a dark suit with a dark shirt is better to add a lighter tie, preferably a tone lighter than a suit. To a black suit and a white shirt, a light tie (fine-tinted) is suitable. If you decide to wear a light suit with a light shirt, then the tie should be chosen in the tone of the shirt. And, finally, with a dark suit and a light shirt, you can put on a tie in the tone of a shirt or suit. In addition, to the monotonous shirts fit ties with a pattern, to shirts in a cage or strip – monochrome ties (and the color of the tie in this case must match the color of the stripes on the shirt).
It should be noted that, according to psychologists, a principled and imperious person will give preference to a blue tie. Blue tie is a trustworthy man, pink will prefer emotional individuals. The red color of the tie speaks of assertiveness and perseverance, green – about punctuality.

The quality of the tie is difficult to determine by yourself.

Buying a tie, as well as buying any other wardrobe item, is a delicate matter. And so that the bought thing does not deceive your expectations, you should pay attention to some features of the tie:
– Lining – smooth, without puffs and irregularities, preferably of wool;
– Seams – smooth and inconspicuous, the seam from the inner wide part is not completely sewn up to the end. Smooth stitches indicate that before you a tie handmade, rigid indicate that the product is factory;
– The edge of the upper side should consist of three parts, and not of two – such a tie better corresponds to the shape of the neck;
– Cloth – dense, heavy, without puffs, high quality. You should choose ties made of silk or synthetic fabrics for silk, cashmere, fine wool. When choosing a cotton tie or a piece of linen and viscose, remember that they will lose their appearance and form quite quickly;
– Put a tie across the palm of your hand – the wide end should hang straight, without twisting.

Tie

The tie does not fit the originals who want to stand out in the crowd.

Absolutely mistaken opinion. In addition, you can choose a completely stunning color combination (for example, in one product there can be up to 60 different color shades), there is an opportunity to purchase a tie with the image of beer, vodka, the heroes of your favorite cartoons, and also with various inscriptions. You can also order a handmade tie, unique and unique, which, undoubtedly, will emphasize your originality. On such a tie you can translate a photo in TIF or JPG format or decorate it with hand-painted. And the manufacture of such a tie takes not so much time – two or three days, no more.

Ties – products solely from different types of fabric.

This is not true. There are knitted, leather and even … wooden ties. They are manufactured by the carpenter Lubosh Mashok, who lives in the Czech town of Khotybozh.Each specimen consists of 11 elements, connected by a regular rubber band and decorated with hand-painted.

Some restaurants and nightclubs are not allowed without a tie.

This is indeed so. And the doormen at the entrance to such fashionable establishments even have a set of ties – especially for forgetful customers. But visitors to the tavern in the Australian Alps, in Abtenau, waits a completely different condition – the entrance to the tie is strictly prohibited. If, however, a person still ventures to appear there “in full parade,” the owner, according to the tradition, will cut off his tie with huge scissors and nail him to the wall along with the visiting card of the unlucky visitor.
