Thirty-first week of pregnancy

Future child.

Height – 40 cm, weight – 1700 grams.

The growth of the child slows down (about a centimeter or two per week), but there is an active development of internal organs. The child was able to breathe freely, his body produces red blood corpuscles (for which the bone marrow responds), he provided himself with heat, putting aside enough subcutaneous fat.

This week the child begins to postpone a new type of fat tissue, the so-called white fat. Thanks to him, the skin does not take a red, as before, but a pink color. The baby’s legs have grown considerably and now they almost reach the fingertips.

The child reacts to loud and sharp sounds just like an adult: he blinked his eyes in confusion and moved his hands and feet. The very fact that he still hears, although his eardrum is plugged with a “stopper” from amniotic fluid and embryonic waste, is interesting.

Scientists say that at this stage the baby hears thanks to the bones of the skull. You can test this theory on yourself: if you attach headphones to the head, through which the sound goes, you will hear everything, just a little quieter than if you put them directly on the ears.

Future Mom.

The average weight gain this week is about 10.5 kg. The height of the bottom of the uterus is 31 cm. The pain in the back and pelvis becomes almost familiar to you. But just remember that they should be quite tolerant and comparable to the pain of active shaping after a long break. Otherwise, consult a doctor.

Watch your legs, whether veins appeared (see article 26 of the week of pregnancy) or swelling (see article for 21 weeks of pregnancy).

In the last trimester of pregnancy, late toxicosis may appear, the worst form of which is the so-called preeclampsia, flowing into eclampsia (convulsions and loss of consciousness). The risk group includes women with nephritis or pyelonephritis, obesity and hypertension if they have a protein in the urine, swelling, changes in reflexes, increased blood pressure. Since eclampsia can be deadly for both mother and baby, it is necessary to know its signs to determine the state of pre-eclampsia.

The woman has a headache, dizziness (with flashing “flies”), pain on the right under the ribs, vomiting. Puffiness itself does not say anything, but in combination with the above symptoms can be a symptom of preeclampsia.

Serious signs are also sudden changes in pressure (normal is considered to be 120 to 70) and weight jumps (plus or minus a few kilograms per day).

For treatment of pre-eclampsia, consult a doctor. Treatment involves bed rest (it is best to lie on your side, this increases blood flow to the placenta), you must drink more, limit the intake of salt and products containing sodium in the body. Diuretic drugs are not recommended.

It’s good that pre-eclampsia is still relatively rare. Most pregnant women perfectly tolerate the third trimester, excluding the inconvenience of a big belly and their own awkwardness. Sometimes they can experience mild attacks of toxicosis: dizziness, motion sickness in transport, weakness, but usually the strength of such attacks does not go to any comparison with the toxemia of the first weeks of pregnancy.

Approximately 30-32 weeks should be performed CTG (cardiotocography), i.e. measuring the heartbeat of a baby. This procedure is quite a long 20-40 minutes, conducted in the LCD on a special record, so as not to create a long queue.

Everything happens as follows: you come to KTG, taking with you a diaper and a book. The book is needed so that it will not be boring to lie for 40 minutes. The player is not recommended to listen, because from the sounds of music the kid can begin to behave not as usual, for example, will begin to actively move, which will make the research data inaccurate.

A woman is put on a special crib and attached to her stomach are special sensors connected to the device and the computer. If you turn on the sound, you hear completely surreal knocking and howling, which, in fact, are nothing more than a knock on your kid’s heart, his movements, contractions of the uterus and other activities inside you, including your own intestines.

To lie with the sensors it is necessary to be at rest, at this time the electronics will fix the intervals between the heart beat of the baby, create a schedule of contractions, calculate the activity of the uterus, and so on. After that, the data will be presented in a graph, the interpretation of which can give the specialist doctor information about the state of the baby, in particular the most important information – is there hypoxia or not (of course, in comparison with the data of other analyzes).

KTG is absolutely harmless for the baby and mother, there are no contraindications to it. When you give birth, you are most likely to be connected to the CTG apparatus in order to monitor the child’s condition and, in case of a sudden change in his cardiac activity, make a decision, for example, about a cesarean section.

In the near future you need to visit a psychologist. Given your increased sensitivity to all kinds of fears, you probably will find something to talk to him about. But we recommend that you ask questions not only about pregnancy and childbirth, but mainly about how the family changes with the birth of a child (especially if this is your first child). Remains quite a bit and your family will increase by one person.

According to statistics, the vast majority of young parents experience difficulties in the family for 1 year of the child’s life. They have to get used to, that now they are not two, but three. Even if you are not the first child, this does not mean that there will be no difficulties, although you are better prepared for them.

According to statistics, about 70% of women experience postpartum depression. Most likely, there are more of them, because traditionally in Russia, a woman does not call her condition after childbirth a depression. She believes that this is just fatigue and lack of sleep. But in fact, lack of sleep exacerbates stress, stress exacerbates depression, depression leads to sleep disorders – a vicious circle turns out.

The most common advice of psychologists is to redistribute responsibilities in the family so that the young mother has enough time to sleep. Therefore, you need to optimize the trips to the store, washing dishes, cleaning and cooking. If there are means – to hire a housekeeper or nanny, if the infrastructure allows – to order the delivery of products to the house, but, mainly, everything is solved at the expense of help from other family members.

And if this help is not available, then the young mother should worry as little as possible about the fact that something is not done. She should take care not only of the baby’s health, but also of her own health. In no case should you worry that you have unglazed laundry or unwashed dishes.

So what! Do first of all only those things that are vital, everything else – as far as possible. Between sleep and ironing or cooking, choose a dream. Between cleaning and caring for yourself, choose to take care of yourself. Then the next time you will have the strength and for homework, and for the husband, and the child, and for yourself.

Remember that prolonged depression can lead, at least, to divorce, and in the worst case – to psychosis and suicide. Therefore, a simple “nedosyp” should be treated with utmost care. Although they say that postpartum depression lasts about 6 weeks, in fact, nothing passes without a trace.

The postpartum can develop into an ordinary prolonged depression, when the whole world is not nice, weary of chronic fatigue, exhausting headaches, losing interest in everything, even to your own child and yourself, embracing a sense of despair and hopelessness of existence.

With this you can fight, just need to know how. Talk about such problems with a psychologist. Do not dismiss the visit to him, as from unnecessary formalities. In fact after sorts or labors to you, most likely, there is no time to visit psychotherapeutic cabinet or study.

Also, start working on yourself now. After all, your sleep on this date leaves much to be desired? The body is already preparing for postnatal lack of sleep. The big belly prevents you from sleeping. So try first, to sleep during the day (you already are on the decree), stick to a more or less firm regime (get up and lie down at about the same time), do not drink much coffee and liquid at night. Love yourself, love your baby – rest more and take care of your nerves!
