By the end of the third trimester: height – 50-51 cm, weight – 2900-5000 gr.
All the organs of the baby by the beginning of the third trimester are created, formed and now it is only about preparing them for existence outside the mother’s womb.
The kid begins to intensively lay down the subcutaneous fat, which acts as a thermoregulator, so he and mom are rapidly gaining weight. By the end of the trimester the baby is growing so much that it becomes tight in the uterus and the intensity of his movements gradually decreases.
From around the age of 32, the kid turns head down and thus begins to prepare for birth. Gradually, his head goes lower and lower into the area of the mother’s pelvis. Two or four weeks before the birth, what happens is called “lowering the abdomen.”
The abdomen changes its shape, presses down with all its weight, when the child presses the head to the bottom of the small pelvis, that is, takes the “pre-start position”. Check whether the belly is down, putting a palm between the chest and stomach. If she lies calmly in the hollow, then the stomach has lowered, if not fit, then still not.
In rare cases (about 4-5% of the total number of births), the baby remains in the pelvic or transverse presentation. Then the process of birth can become complicated, and in some cases the doctor makes a decision about the cesarean section.
The child’s brain is now equal to the fourth part of the adult’s brain mass, and the head itself is the largest – 60% of the adult’s head. With the help of a special substance myelin, contact between nerve cells increases and speeds up.
The brain is developing more and more, and now the kid is able not only to hear or determine the taste, he is able to compare information and respond to it, of course, not as good as a child, but not as bad as it often seems.
The Kid senses the difference between the voice of the father and mother, between other sounds, he understands whether the mother is worried or well, he can even learn something. Unfortunately, the baby also feels pain well and responds to it with suffering.
By the time of delivery, the baby becomes plump, pink, the “Lanugo” fluff disappears from his body, the peel is smoothed and becomes soft and smooth. Thanks to special lubrication, it will be easier for the baby to slip into the birth canal. He developed about 70 reflex movements that help to survive outside the mother’s womb.
The baby is less and less dependent on the mother or the placenta. In its lungs, a surfactant is accumulated – a substance that does not allow the lungs to stick together when inhaled-exhaling. By the 34th week the baby is able to breathe independently, although, of course, he must be under the close supervision of doctors. But a child born at 28 weeks can survive.
Critical days of the third trimester are 28-32 weeks, when there is another intensive growth of the uterus. Premature birth can be caused by hormonal disorders, problems with the placenta (detachment), ischemic-cervical insufficiency (almost painless expansion of the cervix causing labor), late toxicosis (preeclampsia, eclampsia).
Sometimes doctors decide on early delivery if the mother’s life is at risk (diabetes, kidney failure, heart problems, etc.).
Weight gain of 14-15 kg compared with the pre-pregnancy period. The height of the bottom of the uterus at the time of delivery is 39-41 cm. Weight stabilizes 1-2 weeks before delivery, some women even lose weight a little. This is one of the signs of approaching births.
In the last trimester of pregnancy, it’s time to prepare a dowry for the baby (at least the basic things), and most importantly, determine the maternity hospital in which you are going to give birth. Remember that home births are not provided for in the standards of birth management developed in Russia, and can only occur in emergency cases, when there is no way to deliver the mother in the maternity ward.
From 28 weeks with multiple pregnancies and from 30 weeks of normal pregnancy, a woman goes on maternity leave.In order to receive payment, it is necessary to take a sick leave sheet in the women’s consultation. Among other necessary documents that you need to have on hand are a generic certificate, an exchange card and a MHI policy.
The abdomen becomes very large, which causes some discomfort, especially at night – it is very difficult to lie down comfortably to sleep. In addition, the uterus presses on the bladder and every day the frequency of visiting the toilet increases.
If you add to this traditional heartburn, it is understandable why many pregnant women are suffering from insomnia. After the stomach sinks, it becomes a little easier to breathe and heartburn will decrease, but the frequency of urination will be even more intense.
In the third trimester, the pelvic bones begin to disperse under the action of the special hormone relaxin, sometimes it is accompanied by rather unpleasant sensations. For the child, the birth canal is prepared in this way, and the woman’s gait changes – now she is overtaken like a duck, which is quite amusing.
After the birth, everything will return to normal. But now we must pay attention that with the weakening of ligaments between the bones, the stability of your body is reduced. Therefore, it is necessary to walk step by step and slowly in comfortable shoes and do not expose yourself to the risk of falling.
Braxtons training battles become very noticeable. They last not for long and appear irregularly, but they promote the baby to the cervix.
From the 30th week of pregnancy, you must visit the doctor weekly. The main dangers of the third trimester:
– hypo-fetus, caused by various causes (anemia in the mother, problems with the umbilical cord and so on);
– exfoliation or presentation of the placenta, one of the signs of which is bleeding. With timely access to a doctor, you can either correct the situation by medication or have time to save the child by caesarean section;
– the child does not move for too long. True, the baby can just fall asleep, but it’s better to be safe and call the doctor. It is even better to buy a stethoscope in advance (it’s inexpensive) and learn how to listen to it;
– premature birth (held before 38 weeks) can occur due to hypertension in the mother, infections, various anomalies in the structure of the uterus and cervix. Of course, premature birth is very undesirable, but modern technologies allow the baby born in the third trimester to leave with almost 100% success.
36 weeks are considered to be a term that is acceptable for normal births, so every fourth woman gives birth now. At 37 weeks, every third child gives birth, and up to a period of 40 weeks, a minority is worn out altogether.
It can also happen that there is a pregnancy overdraft. If the birth does not begin at 41-42 weeks, then do additional examinations to exclude the error in the timing or in time to find that the child is experiencing any difficulties. In emergency cases, prescribe medication or cesarean section.
The analysis schedule for the third trimester is as follows:
