A person has been choosing the best materials for his home for a long time. At first it was a warm tree and a strong stone. Today they are replaced by modern materials – steel, polymers. Even from glass we learned how to build houses. Let the walls and be transparent, but how much inside the world! Such houses undoubtedly attract attention to themselves. They write about them, they admire them. We also tell about the most unusual houses made of glass.
In fact, this forest house is just a conceptual design of Milanese architect Carlo Santambrodzhio. In the photo we see not a real building, but a computer layout. Such a glass house is part of a series, according to the author’s intention, it will look great in a snow-covered area. The structure of the dwelling is modular, so that the owner can come up with his own configuration. The snow house is designed specifically for the cold climate, the panels have a large thickness to withstand heavy loads, including a thick layer of snow. Do not be afraid of the transparency of the walls, at the touch of a button they will turn into matte. Specific rooms can be isolated here with the help of sliding curtains. The main “chip” of this house is the ability to rise above a thin layer of water. This gives the owner the feeling that the house hovers over the neighborhood. Such a dwelling is clearly not intended for dense urban development. The residence allows you to view the neighborhood 360 degrees, it’s the place somewhere in the country.
Leonardo’s glass cube.
This glass pavilion is located in the German Bad Driburg. Designed by designers from 3deluxe. An unusual house is designed for informal meetings and corporate events of Glakoch Corporation. The internal area of the premises is 1200 square meters. There are also zones for presentations, conference rooms, work areas. The pavilion was built in May 2007. The house has a six-meter frame, and the glass panels stand on the disc springs to reduce the wind pressure. As a result of the original design, architecture, interior design, graphic and landscape designs are intertwined into a single aesthetic essence. Elements of the frame here smoothly flow into the tracks, creating a unique labyrinth. American technology was first applied on such a large scale. It is interesting that inside the cube-shaped case there is an unusual interior in white tones. It takes arbitrary curved shapes, and all furniture is made to order. Lighting is predominantly natural, which is facilitated by both the glass material and the internal layout.
Architects from dRMM have created a real miracle – the sliding construction of the house. At first glance, it looks like an ordinary wooden shed. The shape of the house does not imply any unique features. And only then it turns out that the wooden base is a storage place for a sliding glass structure. An unusual house is located in English Suffolk, the project was completed in January 2009. The country complex consists of three parts: a house, a garage and an annex. The frame of the glass part of the house is made of steel and wood. This is an open living room, which allows you to leave the house as if to meet nature. Attachments leave on wheels on special rails, specially for this purpose in the house the electric motor is established. Sliding house has become a new word in architecture, because this is a completely new way of looking at work with space, light. Now, depending on weather and season, as well as for aesthetic purposes, you can change the look and size of your home. Not surprisingly, the project received many awards and laudatory publications around the world.
Houses near the lake are popular in themselves, thanks to the beautiful views that open from the windows. In the Netherlands, the house of Watervilla Koortenhoef was built, which makes the review even better. Here, the panoramic view becomes better, because almost all the walls from the ceiling to the floor are made of glass. In addition to the water here a few centimeters, which gives a sense of immersion in the lake from anywhere in the house. The modern design is represented by a staircase, along which you can reach the roof terrace. An even more beautiful view will open from here. And the most interesting thing about the house is that the ground floor is located below the surface of the water. The level resembling a submarine is given to the bathroom and the bedroom. As a result, even in the glass house there was a place where you can hide from prying eyes – go under the water. It is interesting that there are also glass panels on the floor to observe the life of the lake in close-up. True, this floor is quite dark, and the underwater world in Holland is not as interesting as in the Caribbean. The overall look of the house itself is quite simple. Although the creators tried to use a stylish avant-garde design, in places the house looks like a parked trailer for rest.
A stable home.
Despite the fact that the glass seems to be a fragile material, this house is especially stable. The house called R128 was designed by architect Werner Sobek. A dwelling for 4 apartments is located in the German city of Stuttgart. The house has triple glazing, thanks to the installed filters the light illuminates all the rooms. In addition, there are solar panels that allow you to light up the rooms in the dark. The use of geothermal energy for building heating and cooling is surprising. This project is based on modular structures, including a wooden floor and a facade. This makes it possible to quickly assemble and dismantle the dwelling. As a result, the house can not just be located anywhere, but it is reusable and can easily be reworked. Through the dining room and kitchen leads a bridge, a total internal area of about 2,700 square feet. The situation in the house is minimalistic, but modern, but there are no internal walls at all.
House of military remnants.
In 1945, the American publisher John Entensa announced his experiment in his journal on art and architecture. As a result, it was born the Case Study Program, an American architectural landmark. The idea of the program was to build a house for the post-war life, while using the industrial materials and modules left over from the Second World War. As a result, an unusual dwelling appeared in Southern California. Those were the days of creativity in American architecture, people were not afraid of experiments. In 1954 designer Buck Stahl and his wife Carlotta bought a plot of land for 13.5 thousand dollars. Then it was an unsociable dangerous place, it was hard to imagine that a house might appear here. However, Steel accepted the challenge. In 1957, young architect Pierre Koenig joined the ambitious work. He was not afraid to suggest building a house of glass and steel. All construction took 13 months and cost 37 thousand dollars. The house has two sleeping places, two bathrooms and a swimming pool. The inner area is 2200 square meters. For 1959, architecture was truly advanced. But most importantly – a unique view of Los Angeles, opening from here, from the cliff. The amazing glass house was so remarkable that it was shown in several movies and TV shows. This is “Why do fools fall in love”, “Corrina, Corrina”, “This stupid love.” Today tourists come here with excursions.
This unique house with two balconies was created by the Egyptian Bassam El-Okeyley. As if emphasizing the evening coolness, the house with the onset of twilight turns into an art installation. A soft light illuminates the glass surface. The balconies facing the glass are made in a fashionable asymmetrical form. Inside the house there are light colors, and the main part of the house is placed on the rear part of the building.
Dune House is located south of the picturesque village of Thorpeness, in Suffolk County. It is an idyllic locality on the beach, surrounded by dunes. From the living room you can go straight to the beach or enjoy a panoramic view of the sea directly from the terrace. The upper floors are given to the bedrooms and the bathroom. To create such a sample of “living” architecture, one of the most famous Norwegian practitioners was invited – Jarmund / Vigsnæs Architects. This company has made a name for itself in the construction of a whole series of experimental houses in Oslo. All orders for the construction of such homes in 2013 have already been adopted. The house can accommodate up to 9 people, there are five bedrooms inside. You can enter the house by a concrete path running through the dunes. Through the glass doors you can get to the first floor, from where the landscape opens with a view of the sea. Here there was a place for a dining table and chairs, large armchairs and a fireplace. The staircase leads to the second floor, each bedroom is equipped with a bathroom and toilet, and there is a terrace for rest.
House on a hill.
This house seems to be playing hide-and-seek – trees, stones and foliage provide complete privacy to tenants. A unique house is located 30 miles north of Sydney, near the ocean coast. The project called Church Point was developed by the architectural firm Utz Sanby. She describes her creation as a house among trees, which is able to become a secluded and secret place for people. As a support stand concrete pillars, they support the house on the slope. The main colors of the interior are white and gray, which helps to not stand out in the whole foliage. Inside the house there are parquet floors and a wooden kitchen, perfectly in harmony with the surroundings.
Around this glass house it’s interesting to just walk. Especially since this is a real palace, one of the five largest in Korea. In 1907, greenhouses of the Changgyeonggung Botanical Garden were constructed from wood of iron and glass. The materials turned out to be advanced for the country at that time. The author of the project was the Japanese, Hayato Fukuba, who is already working on the imperial garden in Tokyo. The work itself was carried out by French builders. Greenhouses retain rare species of flora, including tropical plants. This glass building became a symbol of the Victorian era, the industrial revolution and the cultural power of the British Empire. In the palace you can see the influence of Moorish design, which manifested itself in the form of windows. It is believed that the shape of the greenhouse was inspired by the creators of the water lily.
