In the depth of the history of our civilization lies a lot of mysteries and endless fascinating stories. Something has already been discovered and understood by us, and something – remains an incomprehensible mystery. Over their resolution, scientists and ordinary people fight, there are both scientific and mystical explanations. However, the ultimate mysteries of the final mystery have not been received. Almost all the biggest riddles are written hundreds of works, films are shot, which substantiate the most incredible hypotheses.
The mystery of Stonehenge.
This structure was built in the form of three sections 5000 years ago by Neolithic inhabitants on the Salisbury Plain in South England. Stonehenge attracted visitors for thousands of years. Education consists of 30 vertically delivered sarsen stones weighing 25 tons and 30 bridges between them (horizontally located stones). Inside the circle, along with boulders of sandstone, there are blue stones weighing 6 tons. They traveled here for 380 kilometers, because that is where the nearest quarry is located. The builders managed to create a monumental complex, using only stone tools and practically without the use of working cattle. This causes confusion today. On and millennia and did not give an answer to the question – why was Stonehenge built? Why are there the same blue stones? About the builders are known today is extremely small, they did not leave after themselves written stories. There are many theories about the construction of Stonehenge. Starting from the natural, glacial origin of such a heap, before the intervention of aliens. And the purpose of erecting Stonehenge by people could be different. It could be a temple, a place of astronomical observations and even the burial of unknown creatures. It is believed that blue stones have healing power. Recently, a huge number of graves were discovered around the complex, which gave birth to a new theory – here burials were celebrated.
Murder of John F. Kennedy.
US President John F. Kennedy was shot in the back and head when he followed a motorcade through the streets of Texas along with his wife Jacqueline on November 22, 1963. Just 80 minutes after the shots, the murderer was arrested – Lee Harvey Oswald. Several hours of interrogation followed, which did not correspond to the existing norms. Oswald quickly accused of murder, and 2 days later, while trying to transport him to another prison, and he was killed by Jack Ruby. It happened in front of hundreds of journalists. On November 29, President Lyndon Johnson set up a special commission to investigate the murder. It was headed by Earl Warren, chairman of the Supreme Court of the country. He then revealed that Oswald was a lone shooter and committed his deadly actions from the sixth floor of the school library. The killing gun was a carbine “Carcano”. The appearance of conspiracy theories began on the day of publication of the findings of the Warren Commission. First of all, it is not clear how many shots were, and accordingly shooters, respectively. According to other versions, the Kennedy assassination could have been the Federal Reserve, the CIA, Cuban emigrants, the Mafia, Lyndon Johnson (Kennedy’s successor), the Soviet bloc and even the Israeli government. Questions caused a strange trajectory of one of the bullets, which even was nicknamed magic. And the sudden death of some persons involved in the investigation also left questions. Oswald himself, who had never confessed to the murder, was killed with suspicious rapidity.
Interest in these artifacts broke out with renewed vigor after the release of the next series of “Indiana Jones.” A mysterious find was discovered in 1881, when the first two skulls were found by Mexican mercenaries. Soon more similar crystal skulls were found, in total in Central and South America, twelve such objects were discovered. It was reported that the age of the skulls is about 500 years, they are a legacy of the Aztec and Mayan civilizations. The most famous skull belongs to the Mitchell-Hedges family. It is alleged that he was found by 17-year-old Anna, who accompanied her father Frederik Albert in his Bailey expedition. Later it turned out that in fact the family acquired a skull at Sotheby’s auction in London in 1943. The Mitchell-Hedges skull is unique in that it is anatomically correct, and a removable jaw is included with it. Another famous skull belongs to the British Museum. He was once bought by a mercenary in Mexico, then sold the art dealer Eugene Bolan. As a result, the skull with the help of the Tiffany auction was purchased by the museum itself. Other famous crystal relics are the Parisian skull (its path is similar to that of the British Museum), the Smithsonian skull, the Mayan skull, the amethyst skull, the Texas tortoise (nicknamed the max), the ET skull (the name is due to marks and enlarged malocclusion), pink quartz skull and brazilian skull. It was believed that the skulls were created for a long time by the Aztecs or Maya. It is not clear, however, what technologies allowed them to do so. The last few years are rich in absurd hypotheses. So, the creators of relics consider foreigners, aliens, Atlanteans or even inhabitants of the inner core of the Earth. Today, scientists say that skulls are fake. Quartz was born not from America, but from Europe, besides on the finds were found traces of abrasive finishing of the XIX century. Nevertheless, the crystal skulls still remain a mysterious mystery of humanity, which causes research, guesswork, gossip and even films.
Tomb of Count Dracula.
The most famous character of Bram Stoker, Count Dracula had a real historical prototype, Prince Wallachia. Dracula fought against the Turks, on the one hand he was a hero-patriot, and on the other – a ruthless villain. It is believed that Vlad Dracula tortured and planted on the count of 40 to 100 thousand Turks and his fellow tribesmen who threatened his authority. Information about the Count’s atrocities appeared from a document published in 1463 by an unknown author. As a result, Dracula was killed during the battles with the Turks in 1476 near Bucharest. The head of the ruler was cut off and sent to the sultan of the Ottoman Empire Mehmed II. Where the rest of the body has gone is not known. The identity of Count Dracula, thanks to the myths of his bloodthirsty character, has become legendary. Moreover, it remains unclear where the body of the ruler left after his death. The most popular was the version about Vlad’s tomb in the monastery on Snagov Island. But the archaeological excavations conducted there did not reveal any traces of the remains of the graph. Other rumors say that Vlad’s body was originally buried in the Komnas Monastery, but in the 17th century the structure was significantly rebuilt, and nothing was found. There is also a variant closely connected with the tales of vampires. It is said that Vlad was able to move to any place to defend himself against monks, eager to kill him in a dream. The Tomb of Dracula, like the very fact of his cruelties and the use of blood, is one of the greatest historical mysteries.
This masterpiece was originally created in 1701 for the first King of Prussia, Frederick I. Soon the room arrived in Russia as a gift to Peter the Great. In 1743, the office was restored under the supervision of Empress Elizabeth and took its place in the Winter Palace. Over time, the office was converted into a whole Amber Room, having moved to the palace in Tsarskoye Selo. There the property of the nation was kept for about 200 years. The room was about 55 square meters to build it took 10 years and 6 tons of Baltic amber. When in 1941 the army of Hitler came close to the place of preservation of the room, the custodians tried to evacuate it, but the fragility of amber prevented the conceived. As a result, it was decided to hide a masterpiece behind simple wallpaper. But the Nazis knew where to look for a unique room, the soldiers parted it to transfer to Koenigsberg. From 1942 to 1944, the Amber Room was on display there. In August 1944, during the bombing of the British Air Force there was a fire, but it is believed that the relic has not suffered. They collected it and hid it, since then no one has seen it. Of course, the most popular version today is the death of the room in the fire of fires. However, there are other theories – boxes can remain in the undergrounds of the city, be buried in mines on the territory of the Czech Republic or Germany. There are some facts in evidence that the Amber Room could be on board a ship that was sunk or a submarine that brought it to South America. In favor of the version about the seizure of the room by American units searching for masterpieces of art stolen by the Nazis, the facts of the discovery of fragments of the room in Germany in 1994 and 1997 in Germany. The amber room can remain lost – after all, long storage in damp basements will simply ruin it. Today a copy of the Amber Room was restored in full in the Catherine Palace.
Riddle of the Sphinx.
The mention of the Sphinx immediately conjures up the image of the Great Sphinx in Giza. Nevertheless, the Sphinx was a powerful symbol in Greece, Syria and Phenicia. And the mystery of the Sphinx originated from the Greek legend. According to her, the mythical creature had to ask the man who appeared before him: “What is this creature that walks in the morning on four legs, at lunch for two, and in the evening for three?”. If the unfortunate could not answer, then the Sphinx killed him and ate, otherwise he destroyed himself. According to legend, the only person who could survive after the meeting with the Sphinx was the Greek hero Oedipus, who answered correctly – “man.” Despite the solved puzzle, around the great sculpture there are many questions. What is it all the same, who built this monument, and for what purpose did people pass it? Even the age of the Great Sphinx is challenged by archaeologists. Traditional science believes that it was carved about 4,500 years ago under Pharaoh Hefrene, even note the similarity of his features with a mythical being. But in 1989, the study of John West and geologist Robert Shoch appeared, which established that the sculpture is much older, and the ruler only rebuilt it. As for the passageways, the rumors about the numerous underground passages from the Sphinx to the pyramids exist long ago. Today, the remains of several moves have been found, but it is not yet clear whether they were the creation of the hands of man or nature. The Sphinx continues to ask its riddles, to which people are trying to find answers.
Jack the Ripper.
This mysterious story is one of the oldest and best known among unsolved murders. Jack the Ripper instilled in his time fear in the heart of Victorian London, capturing the imaginations of historians and forensic scientists to this day. From August to November 1888, in Whitechapel, five prostitutes were killed in turns near the London East End, while the insides of the victims were artfully extracted. This area of the rich capital of the empire was extremely poor. Here lived Jewish refugees from Russia, Poland and Romania, and the crime rate went off scale. All that could be learned about the mysterious killer, including letters from him were sent to the police. The number of victims of the maniac remains unclear. The conventional version says there were five of them – Mary Anne Nickles (August 31, 1888), Annie Chapman (September 8), Elizabeth Stride (September 30), Catherine Eddow (September 30) and Mary Jane Kelly (November 9). But some sources believe that the victims were only four, while others increase the number to nine. Letters sent by a maniac to the police are usually recognized as a hoax, although in them there are some graphic details of crimes. It was believed that their author was Tom Bulling, a journalist from the Central Telegraph Agency. Great attention was given to the letter received by George Lask. In it was found half of the human kidney, and it was written that the second half was eaten by a maniac. But Edward had one of the kidneys cut out! The story of a bloodthirsty, skillful maniac had an impact not only on London, but also on the entire British Empire. After all, it turned out that poverty, fear, crime, social unrest and illness were at arm’s length from a prosperous life. And it was the Jack the Ripper that became the personification of all this evil. Over the past 120 years, nothing has led researchers to unambiguously unravel the mystery of the Whitchepel killer. Among the suspects were the princes Albert Victor and Edward, who later became King Edward VII, writer and mathematician Lewis Carroll, Dr. Neil Cream, criminalist Frederick Diming, poet Francis Thompson and even some women.
Ark of the Covenant.
Most Christians mention the Ark of the Covenant with awe. For the first time about the shrine is mentioned in the Bible, Exodus 25. God commanded Moses to make a tabernacle where Jews could pray, but inside there was to be a special room called Holy of Holies. That’s where the ark settled. It was made of acacia and covered with gold. The cherub was crowned with two cherubs, whose wings symbolized the throne of the Lord. Inside were three precious chests in each other, two stone tables that contained the very ten commandments, Aaron’s staff and a golden vessel with manna. The Holy of Holies was allowed to enter only once a year and one high priest on the Jewish day of redemption, Yom Kippur. The Ark was the center of the faith of the Jews, it was believed that he possessed supernatural power and helped to defeat external enemies. The main mystery that arises from the mention of the Ark of the Covenant is that – has it ever existed at all? The relic was supposedly kept in the temple of Solomon, until it was destroyed in 586 BC. Since then, no one saw the Ark. If he really existed, did the Babylonians destroy him or capture him? The second book of the Maccabees, the book of Revelation, states that the Ark no longer exists. However, there are guesses according to which the relic is kept in the mountain of Nebo, that in Jordan, then on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, then in the Church of Our Lady of Mary in Ethiopia, or in the castle of Languedoc, in France. And it seems absolutely incredible version, according to which the Ark is located in limestone caves near the Tsurugi Mountain in Japan.
This legendary English ruler is the most famous in the country. However, it is incomprehensible – was the story about him a legend, to inspire the British troops or the truth? For the first time, Arthur is mentioned in the Welsh poem in the 7th century. Subsequently, the cleric Nennius also mentioned the king in his “History of Britain” in the 9th century. The first detailed story appears in the historical work of Galfrid Monmouth about the kings as early as the 12th century. The writer claims that Arthur was an unrivaled politician and ruler, a great military leader who defeated the armies of Wales, Scotland, Denmark, Norway, Ireland, Germany, Normandy, Brittany and Gaul. It is in this chronicle that the well-known facts about Arthur’s conception, the betrayal of his wife and death are told. Today this work is considered more a fantastic epic than truth, but the world has already plunged into admiration and love for the brave and wise king. Although King Arthur is considered a mythical character, the legend about him is based on the deeds of several real historical people. One of the most common theories is that in fact, Arthur is the Roman commander Lucius Arthorius Kast, who led the five thousand-strong army of the Sarmatians. The name is consonant with Arthur, though he lived 300 years before Arthur – in the second century. Although today there are no true historical facts about the existence of King Arthur, many still believe that he ruled England, especially in Glastonbury is his alleged grave.
Mankind has lost in the depths of centuries not only relics, secrets of people and nations, but also a whole continent! This mystery is one of the oldest in the world, surprising people since the times of antiquity. About Atlantis, Plato wrote, calling it a large island to the west of the Pillars of Hercules (now Gibraltar), which existed around 9500 BC. There lived an incredibly advanced civilization of the Atlanteans. The historian described Atlantis as an unusually beautiful place with a huge palace complex in the middle and a canal system. Each new king of the country, who inherited the palace, tried to add something of his own, surpassing his predecessor. As a result, the building combined many palaces, surpassing in beauty and richness something like that. Although the Atlanteans were blessed with wealth, they were extremely ambitious, constantly looking for power. As a result, Atlantis was struck by a giant earthquake and went into the depths of the sea. But is it true or a beautiful myth? It seems that anyone who studied Greek history had his own theory about the location of a mysterious country. At the same time for many cultures the history of the great flood and even the name of Atlantis is not unusual. Thus, the Basques have the Atlantic, the Vikings have Utley, the peoples of North Africa have Attal, the Aztecs of Aztlán, and the Canary Islands have Atalaya. The location of the mysterious continent remains a mystery. Researchers place it somewhere in various places of the Atlantic Ocean, then in the Mediterranean or Black Sea. There are versions that the Atlanteans lived in the area of the South Pole and in the Andes. The inhabitants of Atlantis themselves could survive and continue to live in England (becoming Druids) in Greece and the New World (becoming progenitors of the Maya and Incas) and Egypt.
