People are happy to be deceived. But then, when they understand what is happening to them. On the other hand, there are so few miracles in life, but I want to see them with my own eyes. That’s why magicians are so popular. Illusionists show that there is no limit to human possibilities – some pass through the walls, others get out of knots and chains, and others simply guess the numbers and cards, and get out of nowhere objects.
It’s no secret that the more risky the focus, the more it is more spectacular. When the artist shows his disdain for the deadly danger, the audience can only be frozen in horror and admiration. But the danger sometimes becomes fatal for magicians. And not only amateurs are killed, but also professionals. We will remember the most famous deaths of magicians during the execution of their tricks.
This magician was known under the pseudonyms “The Sorcerer Carr” or “Mystic Carr”. He worked in South Africa, demonstrating the talents of getting rid of various bonds and just tricks. Crown numbers Rowan was the release of straitjackets, as well as walking on a pile of broken glass. In 1930, Carr performed in Springfontein, in the province of Free State. The illusionist prepared a very dangerous trick. He was placed in a straitjacket, but for spectacular effect, a car was also rushing to him. The car started from a distance of 180 meters, accelerating to 72 kilometers per hour. It is easy to calculate that Rowan had only about 10-15 seconds to get out of his fetters and leave the trajectory of the car. However, this time everything went wrong – the illusionist was too slow to get out of the shirt. As a result, the car flew to Rowan and almost tore off his leg. The horror of the situation is that all this happened in front of numerous spectators, including small children. Before he died, the magician managed to remove the responsibility for the accident from the driver.
The trick with the gun is classic for magicians. The actor creates the illusion that he fires a bullet with his body, or stops it altogether. But such a focus is very dangerous. Although initially it is an illusion, the risk still exists. The viewer does not need to know, but in fact, the bullets are not actually fired, because people have not learned to catch them. And as a result of a dangerous focus with a shot, at least 15 people were killed. One of the most famous cases occurred with the Polish conjurer Delinski and his wife. In November 1820, they performed in the German Arnstad for Prince Schwarzburg-Sondershausen. The trick was that Madame Delinsky had to withstand the “execution” of six soldiers. The magician promised to stop all bullets. The spouses secretly asked the shooters to insert the empty cartridges into the rifles. However, one of the soldiers for some reason neglected the request and took advantage of a conventional bullet. Her Madame Delinski could not stop and died two days later from the wound of her stomach. Benjamin Rucker.
This magician performed on stage under the name Black Herman. His death stands out from among others in our list. The fact is that an African-American magician died for natural reasons, but nobody believed him. At one time, Black Herman was a famous magician. But Jim Crow’s legislative restrictions allowed him to speak only for the black spectators of the South. But they knew the magician in other places. One of his most famous illusions was a “living burial”. This was done for the promotional purposes of future shows. Three days after the burial, Black Herman was exhumed, and he continued the show. That’s why no one believed the magician when he really died. In April 1934, Benjamin Rucker had a heart attack during the show. But clever promoters, even from this event decided to make a profit – they took money from people for their presence at the funeral. Many believed that this was another Black Herman’s focus. A similar fate was to the comedian and magician Tommy Cooper.During the performance on stage, he had a heart attack, but people considered it part of the show. However, this time there was no fee for visiting the funeral.
Doctor Vivian Hensley.
Lovers trying to repeat complex tricks only leave dark spots on the reputation of the art of circus magic. After all, to carry out a dangerous trick, you need special training, and just your skills. Forty-three-year-old Australian Vivian Hensley was an ordinary dentist. Who, then, not the dentist know about the danger of placing in the mouth of various unintentional items for this. But it was Hensley who paid with his life for swallowed. His trick called “swallowing a rusty blade” the doctor showed his young son. The dentist simulated casting into the mouth of the blade, actually putting it in his pocket. July 6, 1938 during the next execution of this focus, Hensley slipped and really dropped the blade in his throat. His wife on the way to the hospital forced him to eat cotton balls. And although a lot of X-rays were taken and two operations were performed, the blade could not be found. And four days later the unfortunate magician died.
It’s no secret that people need food for life, and even more importantly, air. Failure to understand these simple facts can lead to tragedy. An example was the 24-year-old resident of Sri Lanka Janaka Baznake. He tried to break the world record for the greatest time spent underground, being buried alive. Usually, when performing this trick, jugglers still calculate their own ways. Yet such burial is usually an illusion, and under the ground people actually spend a little time. An exception can be called unless David Blaine, who spent in this state for 6 days. However, it was an experienced professional, surrounded by a group of experts and assistants. But Basenka was an ordinary lover. March 5, 2012, he forced his family to bury themselves in a three-meter pit, and then cover it with earth, and even with a tree. After seven and a half hours the man was dug up and found without breath. In the hospital we could only ascertain death. It is sad that even the Guinness Book of Records refused to record this record. Experts consider it too dangerous and do not want more and more new daredevils to risk their lives for him. Royden Joseph Gilbert Rayzon De La Genesta.
Shortly, this American magician was simply called Geneista. His most famous and proprietary stunt was the release of a barrel of liquid. Usually it was water or milk. The essence of the focus was that the escapist was locked in a barrel, and he needed to get out of it before he drowned in it. The accident happened with Genesis in 1930. It turned out that the barrel used this time had serious dents. Because of them, the magician’s movements turned out to be limited and he could not produce the actions necessary for the liberation. Jensta did not manage to get out of the barrel and drowned in it. The amazing thing – the death of a magician only spurred his fellow contemporaries to repeat this trick. Everyone realized that the escapist was facing a really deadly danger. So, thanks to the death of a magician, the trick became even more popular. Jeff Reuburn Hooper.
This 23-year-old novice magician on July 7, 1984 decided to try a trick with release. On the same day Jeff Hooper planned to surprise them with the guests of the Bible conference in the town of Winona-Lake. The magician had to get rid of the shackles while in the waters of the lake. But on his performance Hooper and could not eventually get. During the rehearsal, he jumped in handcuffs into the waters of Lake Fineon, which is next to Fort Wayne, Indiana. After that, the guy sailed for 90 meters from the shore. It was only from the fetters that he was not able to free himself. Because of the strong wind, the screams for help did not reach the helper. And when the rescuers arrived, it was also not possible to get to the magician quickly. As a result, Hooper drowned at a depth of only 1.6 meters.
The 32-year-old magician acted under the name of “The Amazing Joe.” Burrus dreamed of becoming even more famous than his idol – Harry Houdini. In 1992, the night of Halloween and the anniversary of the death of the famous predecessor, Burrus tried to perform a trick with the release, which Houdini himself and failed. The American ordered to bury himself alive. For this, Burrus put on his handcuffs and was locked in a makeshift coffin. He was placed in a grave depth of two meters and poured a family of tons of dirt and cement. Approximately so much, by the way, weighs the male African elephant. But the magician was convicted of the riskiness of such an event, in that it is necessary to resort to illusions for a successful outcome. And during the cooking, one of the journalists noticed that the cement will dry up from the ground. The magician, who hoped not to be crushed by the mass of earth, had to dig a thick layer of dirt, and then make his way through the hardened cement. At the same time, the person somehow had to suffocate due to lack of air. But hardening fast cement for Burrus did not become a problem – the whole mass of land simply crushed the coffin before the magician could ever get out of it.
William Elsworth Robinson.
For viewers, this magician was known as Cheng Liansu. The fact is that under the guise of a Chinese illusionist, a typical American was hiding, who did not leave the habitual image. On the stage, Cheng Liansu never spoke English, and even in an interview he used the services of an interpreter. At the time of his death in 1918, the magician was one of the most famous in the world in his profession. On March 23, in the London area of Wood Green, Cheng Liansu showed his version of catching bullets. But after the previous use, the magician did not properly clean his pistol. As a result, it left enough gunpowder for the bullet to actually fly out. Unexpectedly for all the “Chinese” magician suddenly in English said: “My God, lower the curtain. Something went wrong”. And the next day, William Robinson died in the hospital. And to see how the cultistic illusionist looked, you can in the film “Prestige.”
The pseudonym of this German artist is “The Great Lafayette”. At one time, Sigmund Neuberger was the most highly paid magician in the world. It is known that he adored animals, but most of all – his terrier Beauty. His Great Lafayette was presented to Harry Houdini, who appreciated the mastery of a magician. I must say that the owner was extremely indulging his dog – he had his own suit, his dinner consisted of five dishes, and the collar was encrusted with diamonds. But four days before the opening of the show in Edinburgh, the animal died. Then Lafayette was able to agree with the city council that in exchange for the right to bury in the city cemetery of such a remarkable person as he, at the neighboring cemetery in Pierrechil buried and Beauty. The show was opened on May 9, 1911. But when the company stunt “The Bride of Lion” performed a fire. The magician managed to quickly run out of the burning building, but immediately returned. Lafayette wanted to save the horse, which was part of the program. As a result, the artist died, as well as ten other people. And all because the magician categorically ordered to close the side doors, so that no one secretly went into the hall. So the wish of the Great Lafayette was executed quite quickly, which he obviously did not plan.
Washington Irving Bishop.
Becoming bishop Bishop was almost written on the family. His family was spiritual, and his mother was also a practicing medium. Bishop himself at one time worked as a psychic, after which, knowing the whole inside profession, he decided to start exposing competitors and their tricks. But eventually Bishop departed from this pursuit and became a mentalist. Only he himself honestly admitted to the audience that he had no special mystical features, unlike the psychics he had exposed.Success came to the artist, thanks to the ability to read the movement of muscles. Bishop simply took the viewer’s hand and asked him questions. The artist immediately recorded sharp reactions of muscles, as if interpreting them. And on May 12, 1889, when speaking at the club Lamb (New York), the magical magician suddenly fainted. It was known that Bishop suffered from catalepsy, and this behavior was present on the stage, the doctor regarded as natural. This mental disorder is very similar to death, and a person loses consciousness only for a while. Indeed, Bishop soon woke up. But the continuation of the performance was again interrupted – the magician lost consciousness, this time finally. Then the most mysterious part of the story begins. Three doctors, without the knowledge of their relatives, quickly carried out an autopsy, giving the widow the body of a magician without a brain. The doctors were very interested in this part of the body, because they wanted to understand, due to what a person could read thoughts? However, they did not achieve the glory of the discoverers. But his family immediately filed for eskulapov in court. They believed that Bishop did not die at all, but simply fell into a coma again. A hurried doctors opened it with a simple kill. In addition, when the magician was always a leaf with a description of his disease and instructions in relation to his body. In particular, it was forbidden to open it. But this paper was never found. At the trial, the jury’s opinions were divided, and the case was closed because of the lack of evidence of the fault of the doctors.
