But other countries can boast of their famous beer festivals. And who said that beer is only drunk in the summer or in the fall? In the beer calendar to pay tribute to this foamy drink begins in January, and the series of festivals ends in November!

The most famous beer festivals

Oktoberfest.

This is not just the largest beer festival, but also the biggest folk festival in the world. The event in Munich is visited annually by about 6 million people who drink here an average of a liter of beer per person. For the first time the festival was held on October 12, 1810 in the form of five-day national celebrations in honor of the wedding of the Bavarian prince Ludwig I. The venue where the celebrations took place was named after the bride-the meadow of Theresa. Its area was 41 hectares. And the festival begins on the last Saturday of September and ends on the first Sunday in October. If the end falls on the first days of the month, then the holiday can extend until October 3, because then the day of German unification is celebrated. I must say that such a time for the festival is not chosen by chance, because historically in these days in Munich is warm and sunny weather. The script of the festival has long been defined and for the past 180 years has not changed. Everything begins with processions through the streets of the city, in this parade even the highest Bavarian officials participate. From the twelve volleys on the meadow of Theresa begins the holiday itself. At this time, a plug from the beer barrel is knocked out, which serves as a signal for the beginning of abundant use of beer. And ends every day of the festival strictly at 22-30. I must say that the regulations are rather strict with respect to drinks. On Oktoberfest it is allowed to pour only the beer that is cooked according to medieval rules. The foaming beverage is usually poured into liter mugs. Its average price has recently been 9.5 euros. Beer here can be drunk, how much common sense will tell, but smoking on the territory of Oktoberfest is prohibited.

Volksfest.

This German celebration is also called the People’s Holiday. This is the second largest festival in the world. After all, more than four million people come here. It is considered a more lightweight and family option of the same Oktoberfest. And Volksfest appeared from the agricultural fair, which was founded near Nuremberg in 1818. The region had to be lifted from the decay to which it came after the Napoleonic wars, and then the epidemic of the plague. This festival was only 8 years younger than its Munich neighbor. However, in this case the beer festival in Stuttgart is subject to strict traditions and rituals. The festival also takes place in late September-early October. It opens exactly at 11 am, when the beer barrel opens the Lord Mayor. In the framework of large-scale celebrations, not only drink beer, but demonstrate crafts, a carnival and numerous competitions are held. The symbol of the festival and at the same time the main reference point for guests is a huge column of fruits, reaching 26 meters. This colossus is installed in the central square. And the tents here occupy 16 hectares, they are devoted to different subjects, cuisine and style of decoration. To reserve here a table or even a place on the lava, you should apply for a few months. In each pavilion there is a stage where music constantly plays.

And their master classes are conducted by a real professional in pouring beer into glasses. Authors’ readings work at the festival, and a concert of organ music is held in the local church these days. But all this is not so popular among festival guests, rather than drinking a “free barrel”. Also inside the Pilsner Fest there is also the Gastrofest sub-festival, dedicated to the national Czech cuisine. It should be noted that amusing records are regularly placed at this beer festival.
