International Pancake Day.
It is celebrated in Kansas on 16 February. The first holiday of this kind took place in 1950, although in English Albi it has been held for 500 years. Townsmen arrange races with pancakes in a frying pan, in the course of overcoming the hostess’s distance in indispensable aprons and dresses, they should also toss it in a skillet. Those pancakes that have successfully reached the finish line are then eaten by participants and spectators.
Festival of Fire.
Celebrated on March 13 in Luxembourg. It is believed that the 13th day of the 3rd month is the most successful day for sorcerers, witches and other evil spirits, especially if it is also Friday. On this day in the course of the festival many lights are lit, with which Spring and the birth of the new Sun occur.
Day of the parrot.
It is celebrated on the first Sunday of May in Upper Garonne. During the celebrations a procession is organized, at the head of which was the winner of the last year’s competition. To become the king of the holiday to one of the 40 shooters dressed in medieval clothes, it is necessary to get from a bow to a parrot planted on the top of a 45-meter mast. Festival of cats.
It takes place on 9 May in Belgian Ypres annually. During the festivities from the central bell tower of the city a large number of artificial cats are thrown into the crowd of people. And again, traditions are rooted in the Middle Ages, when cats were considered a symbol of evil, and killing them, it was possible to atone for sins. Now the true reasons for the celebration have been forgotten, but dropping cats remains a fun way to have fun in addition.
Festival of the rose.
It is celebrated in Bulgaria on May 21. The fact is that this plant is especially revered, being one of the symbols of the country. This prompted citizens of Karlovo and Kazynlak to organize a festival that lasts until early July. The first such holiday was held in 1903. The festival begins in the open field, where the ritual of collecting petals occurs, which is later used to make wreaths. In the days of the celebration, performances of sets of ensembles, artists and photographers take place. The main event of the festival is the choice of the Queen of the Rose, held for the first time in 1975. On this day, a carnival takes place, in which guests and residents, dressed in costumes of Roman and Greek times, bear in their hands last year’s queen, showering the petals of those present.

The peculiarity of the May herring is that by the beginning of summer the fish has a maximum size and fat content. In the festivities flags also appear, which is why the holiday has another name – “Flag Day”. The “herring” fleet returns at the beginning of the week, then the fish are gutted and cooked in a special way. The first barrel of selected herring is donated to the monarch. Directly on the day of the festival in the city of Schefiningen, there are orchestras playing, moorings are held on the docks, and ancient sailboats appear in the harbor inviting those who wish to take part in the excursion. Surprisingly, until the 15th century, herring was not generally considered food for ordinary people. And only the fisherman Bakels has thought up to prepare a fish so that it did not bitter. Soon the new product became popular in the whole of Holland, and then in Europe. A whole herring fleet was built, the secret of production was carefully hidden.
The holiday of the Five-petalled rose
again began to be celebrated in Czech Krumlov since 1986. This colorful and bright medieval carnival attracts many tourists. It is dedicated to the reign of the last owners of the local castle, the Rosemberg family. It is the rose that is part of their coat of arms. In the city there is also a colorful procession with flags, torches and drums.
