Yacht is not only a symbol of freedom, but also a sign of luxury and wealth. The personal possession of such a vessel, and even of decent length and equipment, instantly elevates its owner to the rank of elite.
Not surprisingly, the main owners of the largest and most famous yachts are sheikhs, oil and media magnates. For admirers of sea travel colorful illustrated magazines are published, telling about all the news in this area.
Power @ Motoryacht magazine periodically publishes a list of the largest and most luxurious yachts in the world, while the main criterion is still the length of the ship, not its finish. Let’s talk about the twelve biggest yachts in the world.
The leader at the moment is the vessel Eclipse. It was released in 2008 at the famous German shipyard Blohm @ Voss. The length of the yacht is amazing – as much as 169.8 meters! Designed by Atabeyki Design. The height of the yacht was 9 floors, the cost of the same building increased during the project from $ 500 million to $ 1.2 billion. The ship can accommodate only 50 guests, for this purpose 24 guest cabins are allocated, of which 8 are luxury rooms. The largest apartment belongs, of course, to the owner of the yacht – the Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, their area is 5 thousand square meters. The team is 75 people. The main advantage of yachts is its safety – it is equipped with a missile defense system, a special laser for protection against paparazzi and even a mini-submarine, which the owner can use if necessary. The yacht has the highest rating – 7 stars. There is a huge outdoor pool surrounded by bars in Hawaiian style. Here the racks are specially designed for communicating with the host. Inside the same premises there is another pool for wet parties or just swimming. The presence on the yacht of its own restaurant, library and cinema makes it look like a cruise ship. The decoration of the large hall uses classical and modern elements. The first of nine decks serves to accommodate all equipment, engine room and various mechanisms. On the second deck there is a berth for the mentioned submarine for 12 people. Here I found a disco club. On the upper deck, there are living quarters and it is there that the main events are held.
The second place in the list is the yacht Platinum / Golden Star or Dubai. It was released in 2006 all at the same German shipyard, and its master is the ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed. The length of the vessel was 160 meters. Originally, the yacht was ordered by the Prince of Brunei Jeffrey, but in 2006 the semi-finished project was purchased by Mohammed. He transported the unfinished ship from Hamburg to the newly constructed Platinum Yachts dock in Dubai for completion already there. The exact cost of the finished yacht is unknown, but the amount of the deal was $ 350 million. On the ship there are 8 decks and it can accommodate 115 people, including a crew of 88 sailors. The yacht has its own swimming pool and jacuzzi, there is also a landing pad for the helicopter. Among the cabins in addition to the guest there are VIP-rooms. On the sixth and seventh deck there were two master cabins, but the seventh and eighth decks were given to the visibility cabins. The speed of the yacht is 26 knots, it can overcome up to 8,500 nautical miles.
Under the flag of Oman, the Al Said yacht is 155 meters long. Its master is Qaboos bin Said, the ruler of Oman. The vessel was created at the German shipyard Luerssen Yachts and launched in 2007. The original name of the vessel was Sunflower, but the new owner renamed it. Here, the interior is created by designers from Redman Whiteley Dixon. Impressive concert hall, capable of hosting up to 75 musicians. In total, the ship can accommodate up to 65 guests. The total cost of construction was half a billion dollars. The power of each of the two diesels is 11 thousand hp each.
For a long time, the palm tree was built in 1984, the yacht of the King of Saudi Arabia “Prince Abdul Aziz”, a length of 147 meters. At that time, the cost was 200 million dollars, the same vessel was built in Denmark, at the Helsingor Vaerf shipyard. The team is exclusively military seamen, the yacht is also protected from pirates by military missiles. Here, in addition to the usual for such yachts of the pool and the cinema there is even a garage for several cars. The author of the interior was David Hicks. Not without a helipad. After reconstruction in 2007 the ship became even faster – now it develops speed of 22 knots. The power of each of the two diesels is 15 thousand hp each.
The German shipyard Luerssen Yachts has created in 1999 and the next beauty – yacht “Al Salamah”. Its length is 139 meters, and the width is 21 meters. It belongs, as well as its predecessor, to the King of Saudi Arabia Abdul Aziz. On the yacht there are 8 decks and 92 cabins, servicing the floating house of as many as 96 crew members. It is even trite to mention that there is a cinema, a swimming pool and a helipad on the yacht. It is curious that the history of the creation of the ship is still kept in the strictest secrecy. Until now, it is precisely unknown about internal interiors, besides the owner prefers to do without publicity. It remains only to feed on rumors. It is said that one of the cabins is allocated for the hospital, and the height of the ceilings is about 5 meters. In 2006, the yacht visited its own shipyard, where it was reconstructed. 2 diesel engines with a capacity of 8000 hp. allow the beauty to develop a speed of 21 knots.
The 138.4-meter “Rising Sun” yacht belongs to Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, a great lover of sea voyages. The vessel was created in Germany by Luerssen Yachts in 2004. Here the helipad is transformed into basketball, in addition to the cinema there is also a wine cellar. Luxury cabins are ready to receive 16 guests, in total there are 82 internal rooms. The vessel bears several pleasure boats, cases of which are made to order from the New Zealand mahogany. Installed on the ship 4 diesel to 12 thousand hp. allow the vessel to sail at a speed of 28 knots.
Head of the Government of Qatar Hamad bin Hassim bin Husher Al Thani is also the owner of a large yacht. “Al Migrab” contains everything that a ship of this class is supposed to have – a huge amount of luxury, a steam jacuzzi and a permanent helipad. The main thing here is comfort. The vessel can accommodate only about 10 guests in 5 special apartments. The master is provided with a “luxury” cabin. The crew of the yacht is 21 people. Its length is 133 meters, and it was built in 2008 at the German shipyard Peters Schiffbau. The predecessor, with the same name, but the length of “only” at 95 meters did not correspond to the status of the owners. The maximum speed of the court is 20 knots.
In 2003, the 127-meter yacht Octopus descended from Luerssen Yachts. Now it belongs to Paul Allen of Microsoft Corporation. The cost of the vessel was about 150 million dollars. To work on interior decoration was involved designer Jonathan Queen-Barnett. With its help, “Octopus” has become a real palace on the water. Here, in addition to the cinema, a whole music studio has found its place. The vessel is equipped with five pleasure boats and even a small submarine for excursions, designed for 10 people. Very creative solution was to create a yacht transparent bottom – you can watch the underwater world directly from the ship. There are two helipads here, besides a basketball court there are also water motorcycles. The team has 54 people, with a speed of 20 knots, the yacht can travel for distances of up to 8,000 miles.
The most majestic in this list is “HMY Britannia”. A yacht 125 meters long was built in 1954. Its maximum speed is 21 knots, and autonomy is 2400 miles. For a long time the yacht acted as the royal ship of Her Majesty Elizabeth II. Initiated the construction of a new royal yacht George VI, but he did not live to finish the work.As a result, his daughter Elizabeth and her husband personally approved the drawings, selected furniture, textiles and paintings. The shipyard was engaged in shipyard “John Brown.” According to the project, the yacht was equipped with three masts and it was planned that for the time of a possible war, it would turn into a floating hospital. During his service to England, the yacht dealt almost 700 foreign visits, having traveled more than 2 million kilometers. In 1981, it was on Britain that the honeymoon of Prince Charles and Diana passed, in 1986 the ship was able to evacuate more than a thousand refugees from Aden. 300 service personnel did everything to make the queen feel at home. Before the official visits of the vessel, almost 5 tons of various luggage of the monarch, from jewels to special water, were brought on board. Another interesting fact is that only Britain, of all the ships of the Royal Navy, was at one time under the command of the admiral. To serve on a yacht was a great honor, despite the high requirements for candidates. Every day the sailors shined the deck, all the work of the royal family’s quarters was done with maximum silence and at night. In the laundry the staff worked at a temperature of 50 degrees, while maintaining an ideal appearance. In 1997, the Government of England decided that the content of such a vessel was still justified by the foreign policy of the country, but now there is no need for a queen of this kind for the queen. Since then, Britain has been decommissioned. Curiously, but for the right to become the last refuge of the royal yacht fought several cities. Now the yacht is moored in Edinburgh, having turned, in fact, into a museum.
Closes the honorary top ten “Savarona”, the oldest at the same time. A yacht 124 meters in length was launched in 1931. It was the first yacht created by the shipyard Blohm @ Voss. The construction of the ship was financed by the American Emily Cadwallader. However, later she sold the yacht to Turkish President Kemal Ataturk, which they began to use as a training. In 1980, billionaire Kahraman Sadikoglu became the owner for 49 years. On board the elders of the list there were a library, a bar, a cinema and, of course, a Turkish bath. The staircase between the decks is decorated in gold. The vessel was extensively rebuilt in 1989 and 1999, most recently in Istanbul. The team has 44 people, the maximum speed is 18 knots, and the autonomy is 8600 miles. The ship is powered by two engines with a capacity of 3600 hp. For 17 passengers there are 17 cabins. Savarona now regularly plying the Mediterranean Sea, carrying celebrities. The yacht is certainly the most prestigious and representative, created between the two world wars.
Yacht with the male name “Alexander” belongs to the Greek family Latis. A 122-meter ship was built in 1965, and in 1998 there was a major overhaul. Now the yacht is rented out to anyone who wants to. If only there were 115 thousand dollars per day owning the ship. For this money, a beauty salon, a gym, an infirmary, a helipad and a full disco hall are provided. There are 14 cabins for guests. Interior interiors are filled with comfort. The owner has a separate bedroom, in his cabin there is also a bathroom, a jacuzzi and his own locker room. Cruising speed of 16 knots is provided by two diesel engines with a capacity of up to 4000 hp.
Our yacht list closes with the original name “A”. Its owner is the Russian banker Andrei Melnichenko, and the letter “A” is not only the first letter of his name, but his wife Alexandra. The length of the court is astonishing 119 meters, and in height it is an impressive 32 meters. The yacht of author’s design of Philippe Stark cost Russia 200 million pounds. The ship literally stirred the world of yachtsmen, because it uses a completely new design, which many perceived literally as a slap in the whole industry with canonical foundations. Philippe Starck decided not to create a plump body with numerous tiers of zones, bars and tanning salons. The yacht features a streamlined silhouette, its own decks are mostly hermetically glazed. It is no longer a palace, but rather an astronaut’s helmet. The nose of the ship is somewhat like a pontoon, it is blunt, and the extended end is facing the sea. This form was typical for military ships of the early 20th century. Thanks to this, by the way, the yacht at a speed of 24 knots practically does not scatter splashes. The leading British designer of yachts Donald Starkey believes that the appearance of yachts is quite aggressive, contrary to the very idea of the ship – to glide by the sea, enjoying the company of friends. More canons were violated with the internal arrangement of the yacht. Here cabins are upholstered in cream-colored skin, lamps and other metal elements are made of stainless steel. Here you can not find gold, rare wood and bronze. But the windows are made of armored glass. Six guest cabins can easily be transformed into four. The giant bed of the owner is installed at the very top, it can rotate on the circle, giving the opportunity to admire the panorama. On the bow and stern there are swimming pools, there is also a helipad, an amphibious ship and a garage. The yacht is served by 35 people dressed in a special shape designed by Stark. Among the team there are instructors in water skiing, surfing and cycling. On the ship there are more than 100 audio boxes, and a dozen plasma panels, some of which are disguised as mirrors. In any cabin you can see a film from the centralized film archive.
