long ago ceased to be trembling for their lives by beings who were delighted with scraps, shying away from casual passers-by. Today, the mongrels have lost all fear of man, they have become equal masters of the city, often dictating their conditions, protecting their territory with fangs and claws.
Today, the problem of stray animals basically comes down to their protection, whereas the cynologists see it much wider. The society has developed strong myths about stray dogs, which we will try to debunk.
If the dogs are sterilized, this way you can adjust their strength.
On the one hand, in such a myth there is a robust grain – a sterilized animal, whether a cat, a dog or a hamster really can not reproduce. But such a tool will work well if the animal remains in a confined space. In the case of the metropolis, the picture is quite different. The fact is that the dog is a schooling animal. A group of dogs will quickly gather around the sterilized bitch. But it is expected that after the operation a sterile animal will avoid the person in every possible way, taking the whole flock with them. It is not surprising that in a year, around the safe, seemingly animal, there will be several bitches and a couple dozen puppies, and even males. Thus, the operation does not solve the problem at all.
Sterilized dogs are not harmful to humans.
First of all, let’s see what the sterilization itself is: in females, pipes are bandaged during the operation, and in the males – the testes are cut. But the glands themselves, which produce hormones, remain, so that aggressiveness will not go anywhere. If the animal has to cut out all that is possible, together with the glands, then this will already be castration, after such an operation the animal will indeed become a frightened fur creature. But as in the previous case, the dog will soon join the pack, preferring a lower place in a community of similar ones, rather than loneliness. Castration will not save the animal from instincts. So the operation will not reduce the number of hormones, and hence the dog will be equally aggressive. If we assume that sterilization does soothe the animal, at least the fear of man, it is worth remembering that in the case of a mass brawl dog goes on the attack for the dominant male dog will like all human tear.
Stray dogs are part of the city’s ecosystem.
This statement is actually a simple set of words. What is an ecosystem? This self-sufficient, closed community, in which the functions of organisms living in it are clearly distributed. If one of the links is removed, the others can not exist. The construction of such connections are being done at school. On Earth, and it happens, one of the chains is interrupted for climatic, say, reasons – another one is formed. Since the city can be an ecological chain, because it is basically an anti- natural formation, it is inadmissible to compare it with, say, an anthill. After all, nature, a city that generalizes human activity, does not give anything, except for harm. All the living things that exist around megacities are gradually being destroyed or dying out. Would the death of a city or the rejection of one of the inventions of mankind lead to an irreversible extinction of some kind? Rather, on the contrary – nature will only benefit. So there is no ecosystem in the city in principle. Some species of animals try to adapt to life in anthropogenic environment, mostly birds, but this is an exception that only emphasizes the rule. Life shows that a full-fledged ecosystem occurs just in deserted, abandoned cities. When it comes to urban ecology, there are usually rats, cats, ravens and stray dogs. Theorists of urban evolution see an incessant struggle for existence. So, rats are the owners of garbage, they are eaten by cats, those are devoured by dogs. Or another chain – pigeons become victims of crows, those – cats, and cats – dogs.It would seem – remove the cats, so the rats will sweep everything around, and the sky will be covered with pigeons. In fact, any ecological chain is built on the development of simple and numerous to more complex and rare. If we imagine, for example, that all animals feed only on plankton, then it turns out that weak species will yield to strong ones. In a city, such a situation occurs – all animals of the population feed at the expense of a person, being the main consumers of garbage, while they manage not to intersect. So the main dish in the diet and cats, and rats, and dogs are not themselves, but human scraps. Yes, there is a hunt for competitors, but this is not the main food of stray animals. Moreover, dogs are quite loyal to rats, so they are pretty smart, and crayons, which allows them to eat scraps near the flocks.
The Dwarves are suffering. They need human warmth and affection. In fact, who gave us the right to judge what is best for the animal? What can we offer the dog in return? What is the human greeting better than that which the pack members exchange? We can offer the dog a couple of hours a day on a leash instead of a free life. With us, dogs eat a monotonous food, while tramps have a varied table. Is it better for a dog to happen once a year at the desire of the owner than to fight for the female, when it’s like that? And is not it better to die free in a fight than slowly fade from cancer. And after death, a stray dog is in the stomachs of fellow men, and not in a mound with a clumsy cross. Nobody gave a person the right to decide what is best for a dog, especially since we do not regret hares, wolves, sables and other fauna? A paradox, but wherever a person interferes in the wild world, conflicts occur. In American national parks, bears are fed in garbage dumps, but at the same time regularly attack tourists, and dogs attack passers-by. So dogs, like any wild animals, live according to their own laws, which do not change much from the environment, the attention of a person to them will not change their essence.
A dog just so does not bite a person, or will attack from a bad life.
I remember the children’s rhyme: “A dog is biting, only from the life of a dog.” Surprisingly, it was adopted by many people, considering it the main motive for the aggressive action of stray dogs. Can it really be, the full dog will not bite anyone? First of all, let’s look at the types of aggression, what are the causes of dog bites? First of all, it is worth recalling food aggression, which consists in the fact that the dog protects its food. There is sexual aggression when bitches fight with bitches, and males – with males, building their hierarchical ladder. There is an interspecific aggression when a flock attacks any animal, guarding itself against encroachments of strangers, for example, on puppies. Territorial aggression is to protect your territory from another flock. The reason for the attack may be defensive – the dog defends his life, deciding that there is too close a distance between you. During a hunting dog aggression naturally pursues prey, when it is necessary to take into account that it can be simply fleeing a helpless object whose dog accurately calculates. It remains only to understand what kind of aggression served as an occasion for an attack on a person. Only here is the time to find out this is usually a person does not. Perhaps he too quickly approached the puppies, and maybe he was mistaken for the dominant male of the neighboring pack? The cause could be a delicious smell or insecure walking. Maybe the lonely dog attacked for its own reasons, and the rest of the pack was hooked up simply out of interest. By the way, it happens often. Well-fed pups fight among themselves, and adults seek other sources to throw out energy. It is also important that a full stomach strengthens all types of aggression, except food. A person may not understand the reason for attacking him, but the flock will be well known. So the explorers of the mongrels are right, arguing that these dogs do not attack for no reason.
Stray dogs in our streets once had a master.
Actually, it does not. It is necessary to learn – wild flocks living on the streets, never had a master and do not in any way need human care. They need scraps, not our attention. The wagging tail is a sign of high professionalism in the matter of achieving the goal. Those animals that really need a person, usually sooner or later achieve their goal. To do this, it is enough to cuddle up at your feet, look into the eyes, keep watch around the houses. These animals do not need flocks, because there the weak are killed. About thoroughbred dogs and do not have to say, at liberty they usually do not live long – they are either knocked over by a car, or they fall victim to their wild counterparts, or they acquire a new master. Wild dogs, which are lost in cruel packs, were the result of natural selection, forming a new species – a wild city dog.
The dogs once rushed by people direct their brethren to attack people.
Those who spread this myth, do not know anything about the training, or about the life of wild dogs. Firstly, dogs do not know how to give a command, like a human “fac”. So, even becoming a leader, the dog can not lead the attacks. Secondly, when training on the dog is a certain pressure, so an attack against a person will be an uprising against the grown dominant. Therefore, usually a trained dog will keep aloof, not supporting an attack on a person.
The Dwarves do not bite at all, only domestic dogs that were once ruffled by a man bite.
This is especially true for fighting breeds. This myth closely echoes the previous one. Indeed there was a time when the mongrels did not bite, because the fear of the man was in their blood. And this feeling was instilled in the trappers of stray animals. But today the situation has changed. Usually, the policy of the city authorities is aimed at improving the life of stray dogs, while limiting the freedom of the owner’s dogs. So those who were afraid of man died out. Pedigree dogs rarely bite a person, this is not necessary, because they often receive exercises that realize their energy. But for the mongrels, we have become an endless source of food, so their behavior is aimed at putting us in a well-deserved place in their understanding. A person must give food and receive punishment for violation of canine laws. We humanize predators, regretting them and feeding them.
In the West, the mongrels are treated much more humanely than we have.
actually true humanism should be the complete absence of strays on the streets, in order to protect the people, that they stopped carrying cans in the pockets of gas, anxiously looking around on bushes. For the owner’s dogs, the right of normal walking in parks should be given, provided that it does not interfere with the holidaymakers, to build the necessary number of dog pads. Speaking of Western practice, we should consider it in detail. First of all, all the mongrels have long been caught and kept in special receivers. They are treated there and are looking for a master. Those who are unlucky to find a new shelter are allowed to take canned food and dry food. Such is humanism. Are we ready for such a civilized attitude towards the mongrels, worshiping everything Western?
Stray dogs can be destroyed only by shooting or castration.
These options are the simplest, but there is also another, much more effective. In each district there should be a regular cynologist, who will be responsible for the flocks located on its territory. It is this specialist who decides who to shoot (the most aggressive ones) and whom to sterilize (the most innocuous). At the same time, it is necessary to produce shootings correctly, so that this does not happen before the eyes of children or compassionate citizens. Such a cynologist can give advice to anyone who decided to have a dog, conduct training, providing the dogs with defensive skills.Who, how not the cynologist can find the reasons for the biting, fighting and howling at night? The next step should be to supply the yard dogs with a collar and attach them to a certain person. If the dog lives near the store, then they should be under the tutelage of the management of the point, which will respond for biting their sponsored ones. The absence of collars in dogs will mean its wandering status, such animals must be removed from the streets. Such measures would reduce the number of wild dogs at times, only laws like these are not in a hurry to accept – it’s so nice to be kind, though at someone else’s expense, without taking responsibility for the mongrel. The solution to this serious problem will in any case be accompanied by difficulties, but in the proposed version the attitude towards animals will be understandable and humane. I would like the authorities to listen not to the grateful grandmothers or environmentalists who do not have a clue what exactly they are protecting, but to professionals who really want to solve this problem.
