The second obstetric pregnancy week is still a preparatory week. At the end of this week or the beginning of the next (from the 14th day since the start of the last period), ovulation and, possibly, fertilization of the ovum will occur.
In total, a woman prepares 20 or more follicles – the embryo of an egg – but until the full development and ovulation usually only one comes up. It is located in a special so-called graafovoy bubble, filled with liquid.
By the end of the second week from the start of the last monthly period, the vesicle will become quite large and protrude above the ovary surface. When ovulation occurs, the Graafov vesicle ruptures, the egg will exit into the fallopian tube, where fertilization takes place.
Sometimes in the ovaries 2-3 eggs mature at the same time, then in case of fertilization, a multiple pregnancy can develop. On the site of the former bubble a new formation will appear – the yellow body. It provides hormonal support to pregnant women, and often it is his quirks that cause future mums painful toxicosis.
To know exactly the moment when conception is most likely, there are numerous tests. The most accurate, but not the most convenient way to determine the timing of ovulation is measuring basal temperature (temperature in the rectum). If we measure this temperature daily and at a certain time for several months and fix it on the chart, we can fairly accurately indicate when the next ovulation will occur. Until then, the basal temperature is less than 37.0 ° C, and after it – above 37.0 ° C. On the eve of fever, ovulation occurs.
The most common tests for ovulation are strips similar to those for determining pregnancy. The required reagent is applied to the paper. After dipping it into the urine after a while, the result will be revealed. One strip – no ovulation, two strips – there is ovulation. A more expensive version of this test is tablets. Instead of a paper strip you will receive a plastic case with a special window. The accuracy of the tablet tests is considered more reliable.
There are also tests based not on the analysis of urine, but on the analysis of saliva. Scientists found that 2-3 days before ovulation in the saliva, a change in the concentration of chlorides (KCl, MgCl, CaCl, NaCl) occurs. Usually, the test for ovulation by saliva (for example, Your Cycle) is a small device with a lens on which it is necessary to apply a droplet of saliva and allow it to dry. The result will be received in a few minutes.
Such tests are convenient in that they allow you to determine the approximate date of ovulation 2-3 days before its onset, and therefore use this information to prevent unwanted pregnancies or vice versa, to plan the sex of the unborn child.
A boy or a girl?
Methods for planning the sex of the child there are many. The vast majority of them are only folk superstitions or hard-to-prove facts. For example, many believe that if the parents of a future child within 2 months before conception adhere to a special diet (“diet for boys” or “diets for girls”) then they will necessarily have a child of the desired sex.
“Diet for boys” includes meat, potatoes, oranges, bananas, apricots, peaches, dates, mushrooms, cherries. You can not eat raw cabbage, dairy products, nuts, beans, green salad. And if you want a girl that you need to eat on the contrary more dairy products and nuts, as well as eggplants, cucumbers, beets, carrots, peppers, onions. And to exclude from the menu it is necessary meat, a potato, citrus fruit, a currant and a melon.
The second popular method is the calculation of the theory of “blood renewal” depending on the date of birth of the husband and wife. In men, the blood is renewed every 4 years, for women – every three years. The sex of the future child is determined by the spouse whose blood is “stronger”. Divide the age of the mother in the prospective month of conception by 3, and the father’s age by 4.The one who has the remainder of the division will win. However, if the future mother has a negative Rhesus blood, then everything will be reversed. The one who has the remainder will win.
Astrologers argue that the sex of the unborn child depends on which zodiacal constellation (male or female) the moon will be on the day of conception and how it will aspect with the position of the moon in the natal chart of the woman. Calculations are rather complicated: you need to know the exact time and place of birth of the mother, take into account the geographical location of conception and not make mistakes with its time, since the Moon is in this or that constellation for only about 2.5 days. The male constellations include Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, Aquarius, to female Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, Pisces.
There are also ways to plan the sex of the child associated with a schedule of sexual activity (up to complete abstinence), with changes in the environment of the vagina by douching (the acid environment is favorable for the conception of the girl, the alkaline one is the boy), as well as the completely unproven interrelations of the mother’s age and the time of the year of conception, the ratio of the birthdays of the future father and mother, even the strength of the woman’s orgasm at the time of conception.
The only method that can claim today is scientific, is the planning of the sex of the child using the term of ovulation. The essence of the method is as follows. A woman’s egg always carries a female X chromosome. The male sperm carries either a female X chromosome or a male Y chromosome.
Depending on which sperm fertilizes the egg, either a boy (XY) or a girl (XX) will get it. Scientists have determined that spermatozoa X and Y behave differently. The one that carries the male chromosome Y is more mobile, but less viable. A “female” sperm with the X-chromosome is more sluggish, but tenacious.
This leads to an important conclusion. If you want the first spermatozoon with a male chromosome to come to the finish line, then it is worthwhile to be engaged in conception day after day with ovulation or not earlier than the day before. Then the active “male” spermatozoon will reach the egg ready for fertilization and deliver its Y chromosome there faster than its slow competitors with the X chromosome.
If you want a girl, do the opposite. Do not have sex during ovulation. It is best to do this 2-3 days before the deadline. Then the fast Y-spermatozoa do not have time to fertilize the egg – it is not yet ripe completely – and die, while the strongest X-spermatozoa survive. And during ovulation they will ensure you the birth of a lovely daughter. The effectiveness of the method, according to scientists, is 80%.
And now a little about conception. It is believed that the most effective pose for conception is a missionary (male from above, a woman from below) or a man from behind, and the woman kneels, leaning on her elbows. It’s good that after sex a woman lies for half an hour, putting a pillow under her legs and thighs – thus increasing the likelihood of conception.
In addition, a woman is not recommended for some time to hold an active vaginal toilet, especially douching, so as not to change the acid-base balance favorable for conception. It is enough ordinary hygienic procedures.
