Today in most families, parents include diapers in the mandatory shopping list for newborn babies. In some of the parents’ homes, newly mums are allowed to use diapers for babies from the very first day of their birth. However, many young parents, after listening to fables about diapers from moms, grandmothers and acquaintances, begin to treat them with fear.
Let’s dispel all the myths, which in one way or another are associated with the use of disposable diapers. After all, if this were all true, all the diapers would have long ago been destroyed. But, fortunately, not a single myth was true.
When the child grows up, it will be written in the pants.
There is no connection between using diapers and the above. Regardless of whether you use disposable diapers or reusable, so-called diapers, it is not immediately possible to teach the child to the pot. Scientists have proved that a meaningful understanding of the child, where he needs to go to the toilet and why it can not be done in another place, comes not earlier than 2 years. That is why it is better to teach a child to a pot only after reaching this age. For example, in one family this process begins when the child is 7 months old, and he still persists in writing until 2.5 years. In the other, the potty begins at the age of two, and within three months the child understands what is required of him. Thus, disposable diapers can be safely used until the child is 2 years old.
When using diapers, a “greenhouse effect” is observed.
This frightening term appeared several years ago in almost all periodicals for young parents. It means that when using diapers in children, the body temperature and humidity level on those parts of the body of babies that are under single-use diapers rises. I would like to immediately reassure parents – this statement was refuted by the results of a study conducted by the staff of the Scientific Research Institute of Pediatrics of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. The subjects of the study were a common cloth diaper and a modern diaper, manufactured by one of the largest companies on the world market. The study confirmed that the temperature inside the disposable diapers is not much higher than that in the traditional cloth product. Scientists admit that the greenhouse effect can still be possible, but only when the child is in the same disposable diaper for more than 4 hours. That’s why parents need to monitor the timely change of diapers and practice air baths between changing diapers.
The skin of the child comes into contact with the liquid.
Most modern diaper manufacturers have taken care that the skin of toddlers in diapers remains dry, so parents have absolutely nothing to worry about. An exception is the situation when the diaper is full, and there is nowhere else to drain the liquid, how to go back. In any case, disposable diapers have a great advantage over cloth, in which the child has to be wet, as they say, from head to toe. Here, the proximity of the skin to the liquid is obvious.
Diapers in the form of panties are more convenient than usual.
Not necessary. Diapers-panties appeared on sale relatively recently, and before that time the kids did well without them. In addition, manufacturers of these products argue their convenience by the fact that they can be quickly removed while the child is playing and putting on new ones. Thus, the crumb does not have to be distracted from the game. And for the crumbs diapers in the form of panties are also convenient, as well as those that are on Velcro. If someone continues to doubt the incorrectness of the statement, then buy diapers with a rubber band on the back or sides.
Diapers can lead to impotence and infertility in the future.
Nothing of the kind.In our country, disposable diapers began to be used in the early 90’s, on what grounds can we judge impotence and infertility, if the children who first learned what a diaper is, was not more than 17 years old. For example, in the US and other countries, diapers are used much longer than we have. Such a trend is not observed. To prevent impotence and infertility, parents need to pay attention to the fact that the baby does not wear tight panties and tight clothes.
The legs of the toddlers may be warped.
Another misconception, in which people of the older generation are convinced (by analogy with the need for tight swaddling). Curvature of the lower extremities in children under 2 years of age, pediatricians are usually associated with the presence of serious diseases, including rickets. In addition, very often the curvature of legs in toddlers can be a consequence of the use of once popular in our country “walker”. Disposable diapers have absolutely nothing to do with it. This can be asserted with complete certainty, if only because the curvature of the legs occurs with equal frequency as in infants who have never recognized contact with disposable diapers or those who constantly wear a diaper. Moreover, experts believe that disposable diapers provide the position of the hip joint of an infant, which is tantamount to the situation, as in free diapering, the importance of which has already been approved and promoted by pediatricians around the world.
Girls can develop cystitis.
But not because of the very fact of using diapers, but because of their incorrect application, namely the untimely change of a diaper. Also, cystitis (inflammatory disease of the bladder) can be the result of improper care for the girl’s genitals. It is clear that during treatment of this disease from the use of diapers, most likely, will have to abstain – so it is more convenient to monitor the frequency and volume of urination.
The child is uncomfortable to move in a diaper.
When the baby starts to crawl actively and then runs around, the diaper can be inconvenient, but only when it is misfed (Velcro is too tight or too loose). Usually, moms try to put the diaper as close as possible to the body to the baby, but do not take into account what he wears in the reclining position, and when the child kneels or on his legs, his tummy will increase in size.
